PETA stands for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. While they may say they fight for animal rights, many of their actions suggest far from it. Almost 97% of the animals that they liberate from facilities are euthanized. Most of the animals are killed within 24 hours of being brought to a PETA shelter. Why? Because most PETA members believe that an animal would rather be dead than be a pet.
In North Carolina, 100 dead dogs in trash bags were thrown into a dumpster by PETA workers. The workers had euthanized the dogs, and had then decided to dispose of the corpses. In 2003 in more than 15 states, PETA designed and handed out a comic book titled “Your Mommy Kills Animals” to children whose mothers were wearing fur while attending operas and ballets. Many of their publicity stunts involve vandalising buildings. They have even given grants to eco-terrorist groups, such as Earth Liberation Front, a group that has been known to commit arson on businesses. Many of PETA’s stunts are also dangerous to their workers. In California, 3 PETA members were sent to a biker rally to protest about leather usage. The next day, one of the members was found duct taped to a tree.
Many of PETA’s actions may be extreme, but they have done good deeds. PETA has fought to release abused animals, and have saved many. The only problem being, however, is that they protest any animal testing, even if it could lead to a cure for aids. But, with all their problems, some good still comes out of PETA.
In conclusion, PETA is an organization that says they fight for animal rights, but does many things far from it. Many of their actions are unjust, and many of their members are extremists. They are slowly becoming an organization of eco-terrorists. They may have helped with stopping animal abuse, but their organization
