The Relationship Between Violence And Video Games
Violence can be defined in many ways but the most common and basic of these is commiting a harmful act to someone or something. When you typically think of violence, you probably think of the popular crimes that make the news like murder, rape, school shootings, bombings, suicide, and more things along those lines. However, technically by definition, bullying and other similar things could fit in among this definition, too. Just like the definition of violence has an open ended controversy, this correlation between it and video games is too. The correlation could have many outside factors influencing this issue and that is leading to a controversy in psychologists and the whole issue has the nation itself in a controversy over whether or not …show more content…
Many psychologists and the APA can’t even clearly say if there is. We looked at cases where violence that is present in video games may or may not impair a person’s ability to recall what they have just seen in the video game. Also how age does say something about video games but they could have positive and negative effects. Another shows that there are outside factors influencing who is more likely to play these types of games. These people are the groups that are more prone to violence as they have been exposed to more of this. The last one that was discussed shows that there are, in fact, many scholars that can’t agree on the violent video games relationship. It is also seen that there is stereotyping effects with this as many older people and those who don’t play video games blame young violence on that because they disagree with them and just want a scapegoat to blame it on. It is a fact that our crime rates are increasing, but there is a lot that has to be taken in consideration when thinking about this. Just like growing population, increased weapon variety, increased drug access, increased drugs, and more are all linked to crime rates and have to be taken into consideration when talking about them, the same has to be done with violence and video games. The problem is that until recently the other factors haven’t been studied but now that they are being studied, the world and psychologists are more confused than ever about this correlation between the link of violence and video games for that

Mr. Carey is not a researcher or scientist but is a veteran writer of neuroscience, neurology, and psychology.     Video games are basically known as a staple among American teenagers. Many teenage boys and even some girls spend hours of their day staring at the TV screen and rapidly pushing buttons on a controller. Many of the top selling games in America strongly involve violence in their gameplay. These types of games raise many questions about how they affect the people playing the games. Are there negative consequences or are these claims just made up?
