First off, since their release, violent video games have actually helped the rate of violent crimes decline. For example, "the release of major video games, particularly violent video games, led to a slight downtick in violence," (PCworld). The quote consequently shows that since major video games have been released the rate of violence has decreased. This shows that instead of the player causing …show more content…
violence it actually prevents it. Many might say that this might not be videogames causing this decrease but something else. Even if it is something else there still isn't any increase that is shown as a result of violent video games.
Secondly, there is no evidence that suggests that videogames are connected to violence. For example, "No study has ever shown that violent video games result directly in actual violence, let alone mass shootings. That doesn't mean it isn't possible, though the numbers suggest it's very unlikely," (Forbes). The quote from the article explains that the results are inconclusive and that it is very unlikely that it is connected to violence. Some might say that the results are inconclusive, but the ending explains that it is very unlikely meaning there is less of a chance of video games connecting to real world violence than not. This shows video games aren't connected to real-world violence.
Lastly, if they caused real-world violence there would be a lot of problems.
For example, "If it were true, millions of your neighbors, kids, and co-workers would be violent killers. So far as I can tell, this is not the case," (PCworld). This quote is explaining that if video games actually caused violence in most people we would have millions of killers because these people play or have played a violent video game. Many might say, because of this quote, that it only affects certain people and age groups. Even if this were the case there would still be millions of violent people because of video games. This connects why video games don't cause real-world violence.
As shown, video games don't cause the player to create violence in real life because violent games helped the crime rate decrease, there is no evidence that suggests that videogames are connected to violence, and if they caused real-world violence there would be a lot more violence.
