Three Aspects Of My Writing
The three aspects of my writing I would like to improve are my grammar, the choice of words I use and making sure my writing is concise, clear and to the point. I have never been self-confident with my writing no matter what the situation has been, from formal writing such as academic papers for college to informal writing such as a basic email at work or a message to a friend. These issues have really affected my ability to communicate effectively at work and in college. As a service member in the United States Army, we must respond to many emails and counsel soldiers about performance on a regular basis. Sitting down trying to figure out how or what to write has been the most difficult part. I have also found it very difficult in choosing
the right tone, grammar and chose of words due to me having to communicate with higher ranked officers in my career. After reviewing the Unit 1 and Unit 2 Learning Activities, I was able to learn many techniques and strategies such as cubing and bubbling your own thoughts or experiences you have with a topic to write a research paper. The second strategy that I will use is covered in “Honing Word Choice” (Avery, 2011). I will use these techniques that have given me confidence in writing to overcome my fears.
