In Uncommon, Tony Dungy thoroughly explains what it took to achieve his significance. He works every day with athletes who are trying to achieve significance through football. Dungy believes there is a different path to significance. Football isn’t the only way to significance. This book tells lessons on achieving significance that he has learned from his parents, his coaching career, and his journey with God. Dungy's purpose for writing this book is to inspire young people to live their lives differently than others and make a good person out of yourself. I learned that stewardship is the realization that life is not about us, but rather it is all about God and that it all belongs to and comes from God. I learned alot from the example of today’s football players and stewardship. I got that when a player goes professional it may be hard not to buy the nice car or nice clothes, and acquire the things you’ve always wanted, but the idea of stewardship and being a role model should tell you to give back to the place you grew up in should be the kind of impact you are trying to make. It doesn't have to be money either, it can be time, experiences, encouragement. It can also be telling the young men that they don’t have to follow the crowd and be like everyone else, they can do whatever they want in their life and no one should tell them otherwise.
