Task One: Business aims & objectives
Make a PowerPoint presentation in which you will describe aims and objectives of business organisations (profit-making and non-for-profit) and explain why businesses set them.
Your presentation must include the following
a. Definition of “aims” and “objectives”. Explain in your own words what is meant by aims and objectives. (P1)
b. Explain what is meant by SMART objectives? What does SMART stand for? Explain and define each letter using business examples. (P1)

d. You have just been appointed the new manager of Tesco Plc, you must now create your own list of at least three aims & objectives for the business. Please make sure for each aim you create three objectives that you feel is appropriate. (P3)
e. Choose FOUR different sector businesses E.g. Tesco & Oxfam. McDonalds & COLAI. Clearly state the aims and objectives for each business. Compare the similarities and differences in their aims and objectives. (M1)

Task 2: Functional Areas
Following requests from the local schools & colleges, your line manager has now asked you to write a report which explores the main functional areas within business organisations. This will have to be quite a detailed report which illustrates your explanations by using real life examples.
Activity 1: The purpose of functional areas
a. Define the term “functional areas” and explain their purpose. (P4) b.
Describe the main activities and responsibilities of six of the functional areas for City Of London Academy School and Tesco PLC. You can use the websites below for information (P4) (You can produce your evidence in a table)

The interaction of functional areas
For the two businesses described in Task 1:
d. Explain the differences between the various functional areas of Tesco & City Of London Academy Islington, explain how they interact differently and how they inter-relate and work together to support each other in both the two businesses. (M2)
e. Identify two business objectives for each company now explain how four of the functional areas help the business meet each of the objectives you’ve identified.

Task 3: distinction task – HAS tesco met its stated aims and objectives?
Produce a word document which gives Tesco’s stakeholders e.g. Shareholders, the public, staff and customers and the government an idea of how well Tesco has met its stated objectives for the financial year.
Activity 1:
1. Look at the Tesco website, particularly at the annual review and their performance in their local communities and assess whether their original aims and objectives has been fully or partially achieved. (D1)
