Van S Reflection
This semester, I was studied Organization and Business Management. In the starting of the course, we all were assigned groups and asked to do various assignments with our designated group. The purpose of our group is reading three 3 chapters of the book – “Bateman/Snell-Management Leading & Collaborating In A Competitive World” then make the slide and every member will present what things we learned in these chapters. Others members will contribute their ideas base on their experience. The final the teacher will summarize and share his opinion about the presentation. I think the main reason our group had so much cohesiveness is the fact that we were all focused on the same goal. We worked together well knowing that if we bonded, success would come. I was blessed with a group that had a lot of cohesiveness.
In fact, conflict is part of the storming step in the four step process used to describe group formation--forming, norming, storming, and performing. Yet when it came to our group, I simply cannot think of anything that happened in our group that could be considered conflict. At no point during this class did our group have members at each others’ throats or arguing with one another. I think this was simple because we all were blessed to wind up in a group where our personalities gelled so well together. Thong is someone we all respected, he has a lot of experiences in management a team. Son is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and was willing to do anything to help the group. I am very glad to say that our group never had to deal with any conflict. As our group spent more time together, we began to develop roles. When it came to writing speeches, we always had the same roles. I would do the introduction and a main point if needed, me and Son would do main points, and Thong would do the conclusion and a main point if needed. I served as the Coordinator because i always clarified our ideas and suggestions. The roles we played were a big

One of the most effective teams I have been a member of is the Lindsay Street Baptist Church Senior Usher Board. Our board is made up of individuals of the same race. However, our ages vary from 23 to 75 years of age. With this broad age gap, everyone is learning something differently about each other during our meetings. We share a common goal which is to be the best “doorkeepers” in the church. We find solace and joy in performing our duties. We are committed to each as members of the board. We respect, trust, and communicate effectively with one another. We are aware and respect of each other’s feelings. We consider ourselves family on the board. Group cohesion is what we experience on the usher board. Group cohesion is the “interpersonal glue” that makes the members of a group stick together (Nelson & Quick, 2011). We realize that everyone cannot be the leader of the group. We elect a president to keep us in order, motivate us, criticize us, and compliment us. One main function of the president is to make sure the ushers are governed according to established rules and regulations. Every organization, group or business should have a leader in place to direct and lead the people.…

Through this group assignment, I really learned much. First, I realize that I should learn more about finance and accounting .when talking about the last part in presentation during discussion, I cannot participate in the debate, and even do not know what they said when comes some proper nouns. Although my major is logistics, it is good for me to learn more about other subject knowledge such as finance and management. Second is although we had discussion many times, we were inefficient and wasted much time. We supposed to have a target or task for each discussion, and leader need to coordinate the meeting. In addition, democracy does not work every time in small group, everyone has a different idea and wants to persuade others, which is the reason that a good leader is very important for a team, so that I should start to train leadership skills. Third is that unity and cooperation are essential to a good team. Team members need to work for…

The second stage of group development is known as the storming stage. The storming stage is where the conflicts and competition are at its greatest. This happens because the team members have an understanding of the task and a general feel for who they are as a team and who group members are, they feel confident and begin to address some of the more important issues surrounding the group. Such issues can relate to things like the group’s tasks, individual roles and responsibilities or even with the team members themselves. They have different opinions on what should be done and how it should be done. Each team member wonders whether or not his or her ideas will be respected or not, so the team members compete with each other for status and…

Managing conflict require skilful techniques. These techniques are also helpful when dealing with disagreements, the start of conflicts. Conflict occurs in every group. Issues affecting one member usually have an impact on other members as well. An effective group, whether social, vocational or personal is one that is not afraid to take risks. Taking risk will come when the group understands that all conflicts will be resolved in a timely and effective manner. The quicker it’s resolved the better. However, maybe avoiding conflict was a good idea. Thankfully we had a good time every time we had T-groups. We all asked each other about thing we mentioned the time before, which showed how much we cared. Like for example, a group member volunteers for the fire department and every group we would ask her how it was going. The first half was not like this for me, I had a lot of anxiety about T-group. I mean I still didn’t speak up much but I did feel a lot more…
