Like I said there's several types of veganism to choose from such as; pescatarian, Flexitarian, lacto-ovo-vegetarians, vegan, raw vegan, and macrobiotic. Each diet has a very different distinctive plan to follow, so you may ask why should I become a vegetarian and which plan is for me? People choose to be vegan for health, environmental, and for ethical reasons. For example, some vegans feel that one promotes the meat industry by consuming eggs and dairy products. That is, once dairy cows or egg-laying chickens are too old to be productive, they are often sold as meat; and since male calves do not produce milk, they usually are raised for veal or other products. Some people avoid these items because of conditions associated with their production. Many vegans choose this lifestyle to promote a more humane and caring world. They know they are not perfect, but believe they have a responsibility to try to do their best, while not being judgmental of others.
After reading the assigned article the author talks about going organic in your diet and explains the beneficial factors that go along. For instance going organic helps farmers maintain the quality of their soil, and it also reduces pollution from nitrogen run off. With more beneficial factors that follow, it seems like going organic is the best way to go when your talking about the environment. However even though it's very favorable for the environment, there are some defects that come along with.
Automatically accepting organic and natural ingredients as always safe and preferable can sometimes lead to dangerous outcomes. For example, Hydrolyzed wheat protein sounds harmless, but it actually has the potential to cause an allergic reaction in very young children. Another example, Grain-based ingredients can also be of concern when it comes to babies. My last example, the use of pharmacologically active ingredients like pansy and yucca extracts. Pansy contains cyclotide proteins that pose an allergy risk and are so bioactive they’re being investigated for use in medications.
Ultimately I do agree with the authors in the selected passage. Going organic has some health risk factors but it seems like only in younger children. When you take a step back you'll notice the pros of helping out the environment completely out weighs the cons health risks. Personally I'd rather save and conserve the earth as much as possible throughout my lifetime to provide for our kids and the future.

A very common misconception is the mislabeling and generalization of those considering themselves to be vegetarians. Vegetarian is used to describe people who exclude meat, poultry, fish, or any other animal derived food from their diet. However, within the generalized term "vegetarian" come numerous different forms of the lifestyle, each classified based on the degree to which animal products are excluded from their diet and the reasoning such as ethical, religious, health. The different groups of vegetarianism fall along an imaginary spectrum, with semi-vegetarians, who are often excluded entirely due to behaviors conflicting with the practice, on one end of the spectrum and at the opposite end are vegans, the strictest of vegetarianism. The semi vegetarians, or those who exclude animal products from their lifestyle to some degree, are often banished by true vegetarians.
