Virginia Tech Experience
Unlike other Hokies, I did not tour Virginia Tech before applying. In fact, I didn't even know where Virginia Tech was before I started applying for colleges 2 years ago. I just knew this school was for me. It felt like a place where I could dream big. Getting a postcard from a senior Hokie before coming to Virginia Tech made it all the more incredible. Two years later, I will write these postcards for our new accepted Hokies myself. I also have done community service related activities every semester, from Women’s Resource Center to being a note taker for Services for Students with Disabilities this year. I strive to make my life about the school motto, Ut Prosim. The only way to make Virginia Tech a more heartwarming place is by participating in the community. …show more content…

Many people have asked me in Georgia, do you feel safe on Virginia Tech campus? I really feel the ignorance when I hear questions like this. Virginia Tech is being remembered for what happened years ago. I want be able to change my school’s representation from my own actions. Although Virginia Tech is not as diverse as other tech schools, but students are able to create a bound with what we have. Everyday I am influenced by their leadership and commitment to Van Horn. It’s been difficult because I’ve never had to guide my classmates and ensure that their experience in an activity is positive. As well as making sure they don’t get off topic, which they tend to do on a frequent basis. I hope I have influenced them nearly as much as they have influenced me. Through National Honor Society I have become closer…

The Virginia Tech massacre was an absolute disaster and could have been avoided if people actually did their jobs and what they were supposed to do leading up to and before the shootings began. Cho was spiraling well before the events and had he been reported to the police he never would have gotten his hands on two guns and all that ammunition. The Virginia Tech staff also dropped the ball because once they found the chained doors with the note that said there was a bomb, the person went up to the third floor to speak to a supervisor instead of just calling the police like they were supposed to. One if I saw chained doors and a note saying don’t leave or a bomb will go off I would immediately call the police. Then I would hop out of a window.…

Being a community, network, and family details my view of the “Hokie Spirit.” At Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VT), I am certain that there is overwhelming support from professors and students because of the unique atmosphere I perceived when touring. While walking around the brick buildings, I felt as if all students knew each other, or that each of them had something in common. This aspect that every person who strode pass me entailed, was pride or “Hokie Spirit.” I could sense the fulfillment each individual had for attending one of the top public schools in the United States, and because of this, “Hokie Spirit” flourishes throughout the campus.…

Hearing that Wayne State is a welcoming diverse community is something that makes me ready to be a part of the student body. Being a person of color and growing up in a community that was so welcoming made life easy to embrace. For years as a young child, I was always worried about not being able to fit in or to find friends: simply because I was told by adults that the other kids would not like me for not being “American” enough. Now as a young adult I am able to say that those adults were wrong, I grew up with friends of all different ethnicities. At Wayne State I would make sure that my fellow classmates feel the same amount of comfort I felt growing up. I am so fortunate that growing up in such a diverse environment has made me a well-rounded…
