Visual Argument
The whole point of the story in advertising is to effectively deliver the desired call to action. The effectiveness of an advertisement seeks to appeal to the emotions, make a connection, and impact the audience. In other words, an ad is effective when it grabs the audience’s attention and that people are receptive to what they see and read on a commercial. As part of the effectiveness, ad creators found out that if they associate their products with high-profiled personalities, it will generate more attention from the public. This is why I would say that my chosen visual advertisement is effective because the choice of the people (especially celebrities), texts, and the products that participate in making the ad persuasive does work.
The print advertisement shows Kim Cattral sitting on a love sofa who is showing us how glowing and radiant her skin is. Cattral is showing off, I think, the right amount of skin to keep things sexy yet friendly. Next to her, on the floor, we can see the different products which are “Total Effects 7-in-1 Advanced Anti-Aging Body Wash and Body Lotion” displayed and shown to the public. Color choice is a very important aspect of advertisement. The choice of the different colors on this print makes her skin have all the attention. The love sofa has a dark brown color; making the gold/champagne colored slip dress she is wearing pops more. The gold is giving her a healthy look and I think the ad creators chose these colors on purpose. The colors work with the environment in which they are used and they also target people. This is also an appeal to the audience. As the elements of an advertisement are all important, the visuals play a big role. This is why the appearance of Kim Cattral will represent more the concept the ad tries to convey. The choice of a face for an advertisement is very important. Companies and ad creators then “use” celebrities who are “famous” to attract consumers on their products. This use of

I most definitively agree, for example as an avid TV watcher I have seen a good amount of commercials and whenever there is a big company (Pepsi) trying to promote a new product, there is almost always a celebrity in the ad.     The cartoon that I chose is called Border Security. I find it very interesting that the cartoonist chose this type of background. Also having Border Security, NOT, and Amnesty all highlighted in red. The text in this cartoon is very unique to its time, because of the major focus that has been on border control. I believe that the cartoonist targeted a specific type of reader in this cartoon. That type of reader would be the nave and ignorant people focused on this topic of boarder security and bringing up unreasonable ideas as to why we need more border control and to send them back to their country. I also find it interesting that in this cartoon the Native Americans are talking about border security to each other, about the Europeans, just to find out that the Europeans in the future kill, rape, and steal the Native Americans land and people. To me it looks like the cartoonist is trying to get a point across that we need to take a look at ourselves and what we stand by, or perhaps the cartoon just may be telling us that this is a cycle. When talking about the exigence of this cartoon, the fact that I believe everyone should open their eyes and try to relate toward each other is my main motivation on writing about this topic.…

    They describe the true goal of ads and commercials is to persuade the consumer to persuade themselves. People, especially consumers, want to feel like they have the power.
