The basis of our reward system is the acknowledge of good behaviour. We seek to inspire children to achieve high standards of discipline and academic achievement by praise, encouragement and positive reinforcement of good behaviour. This is achieved in a number of ways:…
One of the qualities that a good teacher should possess is to help and ensure that our…
By always being respectful, no matter a persons title or rank, the student learns that this is an appropriate behavior to model. This philosophy blends greatly with the thinking that everyone should treat other the way they would wish to be treated. Demonstrating an ability to make positive choices is yet another way that a teacher can influence and impact a child. As a faith based educator for many years, as well as a public school substitute, Sean Houlihan prides himself on the ability to make positive choices. He plans to continue his career as a teacher in Rhode Island, imparting his wisdom and role modeling characteristics to every…
Instead of being praised; the educator could have verbally told Mark, in a calm manner, how his actions were wrong and what he could do to change them. In addition, the teacher should consider pulling the students to…
by giving negative reinforcement to his students over and over to the point where a student…
Treating students with kindness and respect builds their self-confidence. Bill Rago, an English military teacher, is seen as a friendly man who treats his students well. He sees them as individuals and works hard to keep all in good spirit. Students are enthusiastic about his class. Mrs. Dollen, a 4th grade teacher, is the kind of teacher you would wake up to to start the morning and not be looking forward to seeing. She doesn't mind if she puts down her students let alone hit them. Striking fear into the eyes of her students, Mrs. Dollen is a kid's worst nightmare.…
To effectively manage the classroom climate I provided positive reinforcement and praise both verbal and non-verbal to let them know they met my expectations. I consistently used proximity control during instruction and transitions to redirect student’s behavior in a respectful and effective…
Reinforcing positive behaviour; this approach is well known and focusses on praising children when they have shown positive behaviour so they will be more likely to repeat this behaviour.…
My philosophy of guiding children’s positive behaviors is through praising children when they have done a good job at something. For example, if it is time to clean up and I see a child putting away toys nicely I will say “I like how you put away the toys Razi, good job”. Also a soft pat on the back when a child has accomplished a new task such as putting on their own shoes, n shows affection and pride. . In addition, when a child shares I show am glad they are doing such a great job. It is important to acknowledge their positive behaviors in order to encourage the children to keep it up. This approach is very different from the way I was guided as a child because when I was in school, the teachers would not say much whenever I had done something good, which made me feel like perhaps my positive behaviors and actions had been overlooked or did not matter much to my teachers.…
When supporting positive behaviour there is lots of different approaches, most practitioners find they need to draw on several of these reinforcing positive behaviour; this approach is well known and focuses on praising children and young people when they have shown positive behaviour so they will be more likely to repeat this behaviour. modelling; this approach is extremely important as children and young people learn some of their behaviour from others so it is important to role model good behaviour which includes being polite, being patience and showing consideration for others.…
Feedback should be a two way process and should be constructive. The trainer should be aware of body language, facial expressions and tone of voice to avoid offence. Notice should be taken of non verbal signals from learners. Descriptive feedback should be used and the trainer should ensure the student knows and understand what has been said. Responses should be sought from the student. It is important to give any less than favourable feedback between two constructive pieces, known as the praise sandwich. Constructive feedback has the following advantages –…
* Listen to the pupil using praise and reward them for their good work and behaviour.…
Someone who contributes a positive learning experience to others can change the way the people influenced decide to to grow and succeed. The person who influences people in such a positive way deserves praise and recognition. A great example of how an influential teacher can change a person's life is in the short essay, “Unforgettable Miss Bessie”, by Carl T.Rowan. In the essay, the author describes his experience with a certain teacher and how she changed so many lives in a positive way. Rowan states “They knew the measure of a great teacher:love and motivation. Her wisdom and influence has rippled out across generations”(414). By believing in her students and supporting them through their hardship, the teacher had ultimately given the students…
Who, for example, has made their lunch every day? (It might be the lunch ladies, in which case a “thank you” is owed them.) When my NCLB scores come in, I have my students write notes to those teachers that made a difference–taught them to read, turned them onto fantasy literature, or did something else that pushed them forward academically. We once put the little notes in a bowl and left it in the staff room for everyone to read–a big hit and some positive PR for the middle school in our K-8…
This action research focuses on praise and discusses the use of verbal and non verbal praise with special needs students. Praise should be integral in the classroom and it is my belief that it is pivotal in the special needs classroom. To examine this statement further and to analyse through strategies ways to improve my delivery I developed a simple questionnaire appropriate to my students and channelled the research through the questions: How important is praise? Is non verbal praise distinct to verbal praise? What effect does non-verbal/verbal praise have on students?…
