When People Speak Up In Terrible Things
In order for a change to happen, you must speak up because remaining quiet can cause more bad than a good change. Being neutral helps those who are evil remain silent and cause even more evil to occur. I believe if everyone would stick together through thick and thin things would not be the way they are.One reason why is if you are there to help others and listen then they will do the same for you in return. Therefore, treat others the way you want to be treated. In the book Terrible Things on page 25, it states that “if only we creatures had stuck together it could have been different.” This evidence shows that if you stick together as a team you can accomplish a lot more. As a group and or team, you can change more by putting multiple mindsets together. Another example would be from the Excerpt from night in paragraph 9 it states that, “some even insinuated that he only wanted their pity, that he was imagining things.” This piece of evidence is showing that Moishe the Beatle still spoke up in what he believed …show more content…
Making a change in the community, or anywhere is a great choice because it shows that you’re a great person and is not afraid to speak up and do what you believe is right. In the poem First they came, it states, “then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.” This evidence is showing that if you stand up for others by speaking up then you can make a change. It also proves that if your there for others then they will be there in return for you. Another example would be from the story the wrong side of the road it states, “If I didn’t think we would’ve been allowed” “we weren’t able to get out of the carriage.” This evidence shows that they could have gotten out but they thought otherwise and figured they would not be able too. Therefore, speaking up and making a change in others is always a great choice, because everyone needs a helping help

Another situation that I was made aware of was that families needed food and it surprised me to realize that there were kids in need of food that lived near me. I come from a fairly wealthy town and had not realized that there were so many families that lived near me in need of food. I cannot imagine being a young child and have to worry if my mom or dad was going to be able feed me dinner. This experience made me realize how important it is to donate to the local food pantry. Citizenship will be very important in my career because if you want to get good publicity for a business it is important to help the community. Citizenship will be even more important to me as a person because volunteering has a way of making me feel like I am helping making a positive change. When I get into my career I plan to donate to food pantries often because this experience made me realize that not all people have the means to support themselves. I actually plan to start volunteer at the food pantry in the summer because they seemed like they could use some help and the volunteers were very gracious that I was helping them out. I learned through this project that not…

If we want to make a difference we have to lose some pride in our self. We all have pride for what we are and where we come from, but sometimes we have to put some pride away to work with other people and get along. “ No race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem.” Our pride should not be the reason we don't succeed and lose many opportunities we have. “Nor should we permit our grievances to overshadow our opportunities.” Personally I think we should always work from the bottom too the top.…

This makes an impact on me because the teachers don't need to do all the things that they do for us. Every year my family down it's close to the kids that need clothing. “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” While brainstorming ideas for this essay I came across this quote by Winston Churchill. Even if you are making a good living for yourself, you should always take time out of your day to give back; you never know when you might need someone to help you out. Volunteering my time to my community has always been something I’ve made time for. Not only does volunteering help others, but it can affect your own character. By volunteering you learn social skills, gain work experience, and if you are lucky enough, it will change your life.…

Before I started doing community service I really didn’t care about others. I was just in my own world and just doing things that weren’t that beneficial for me and others. But that changed once I started to know other people’s situations. Realizing what the people who I was helping went through helped me have a change of heart. It made me care about others and understand how they felt.…

Having the opportunity to make new, diverse friends around the community impacted me as a person. The people I met not only included the people I served, but also included the people I worked alongside of me in the food pantry. Since I volunteered at the same day and time every week, I was able to become familiar with many new people. In fact, many of these people were even able to connect to my life. One day I had a conversation with a man I volunteered with numerous times whose name was Steve.…

Spelman College’s motto, A Choice to Change the World, mirrors my goal as a member of this intellectual community. During my first year at this institution, I dedicated myself to several hours of community service. I found that this was a vital part of my intellectual growth as both a student and person within society. This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…

Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…
