Who Is Buddy The Elf?

After being abandoned as an infant, Buddy the Elf was unconsciously stowed away in Santa’s sack and taken to the North Pole where he was adopted as an elf. He fell under the apprenticeship of Papa Elf, who acted as a mentor, a father, and provided mental encouragement. However, due to his blunderous size and inability to parallel the productivity of his colleagues, he was outcasted from the other elves and assigned to the lowly job as a toy tester. Because of his apparent difference from the other elves, Papa Elf reluctantly relayed to Buddy that he was human and had been given up for adoption as a child by Walter Hobbs and Susan Wells. Determined to find his father, Buddy ventured to the children’s book company in New York in which Walter worked. Once he arrived, he immediately displayed his immaturity and lack of social etiquette, chewing gum of the rails in a subway, crossing the street at dangerous times, and taking the claim of a coffee shop to have “the world’s best coffee” quite literally. Once he found his father, Hobbs was incredulous and had him thrown out. He was willing to sacrifice his life in the North Pole to find his father and prove himself worthy to the other elves and Santa. Buddy is also the wanderer, as he ventures to New York to find himself and gather his thoughts while trying to find his father. He can also be classified as the scapegoat because he was blamed for the diminishing production of toys because of his ungainly size and clumsiness. Buddy can be viewed as the eternal boy and the child, considering that when he came to New York, he showed naïveté by disregarding social etiquette unwittingly.
