Why Am I Attending College
During high school, my goal was to do just well enough to pass. Attending college was never a thought that had crossed my mind. As the first grandchild and being raised by my grandparents, my main goal was to graduate and move out as soon as possible. So, shortly after graduation, I moved roughly an hour away with my significant other at the time and began working to pay bills.

Throughout the last 18 years, I’ve worked at several different organizations in several different roles. Recently, I’ve decided that I have held out long enough and it is time to invest more into myself by working towards a degree. After a few months of researching and doing some deep thinking, I’ve decided that I would like to be involved in a career that helps others. As much as I would love to become a nurse, I’m not certain I could handle sticking a needle into someone’s arm to draw blood or put in an IV in.

I felt as though I knew every face that walked through the hospital doors. I watched as nurses provided passionate care to their patients. Being in the medical field for the past ten years, I have seen the growth and changes in the medical field. When I began my nursing career as a medical assistant, I noticed many other nurses continuing their education to be able to have greater hands on approach in nursing. This opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that a nurse can do, whether it’s with direct patient care or being a resource to patients and other nurses around. After completing my RN in May of 2015, I decided that I really enjoyed being a mentor and teacher to other nurses. That is why I am continuing on with my education in hopes to one day receive my Master’s degree in Nursing and be able to utilize the knowledge and skills that I build, to educate patients. I still…

The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…

Well there are different varieties of students who attend college but each have their own reasons. There are three types of reasons I could think of that are main examples of why students attend college. First off, there are students who go to college not only to learn, but to play sports to possibly make it big in the NFL, NBA, etc… For example, most students, actually a big number of students are talented and don’t want their skills to go to waste. So they play sports hoping to succeed. Then there are small groups of kids who are gifted with sport skills and get scholarships and full rides, or maybe even a little sum of money. So really, they are only there for the sports. Secondly, you have the students who simply major on a career they…
