There are many points that support the argument that violent video games make people violent in real life.
For one, studies show that young boys and girls who have been in at least one or more fights repeatedly played video games that were rated Mature or Violent. Secondly, it is agreed by doctors and parents in general that if a child already has aggressive behaviors at home or at school, then playing violent video games makes this behavior even worse or at least increase. One of the main arguments against violent video games is that it makes the players numb and unfeeling to real life violence as well as much more likely to commit real life violence and feel little to no remorse about doing it. Also, it can cause some to be unable to differentiate between the scenarios acted out in video games and acts carried out in real life. Take into account the fact that a large percent of the suspects who committed mass murders and shooting have been fans and avid players of violent video games. Coincidence? Not
likely.
There are those who will argue that the connection between real life acts of violence and violent video games is nonexistent. They argue that if anything, violent video games lessen the incidence of real life acts of violence because it serves as an outlet for youth and adult aggression. In other words, they claim it is a great way to let off steam in a way that is safe and does not cause harm to anyone as opposed to blowing up in real life situations. Critics also argue that all players are logically aware of the difference between real life and a pretend game. It was even argued that players would prefer to play the violent games over committing crimes.
The arguments in favor of violent video games are laughable and seem more like excuses than anything else. It seems that because there is no tangible proof or link, then all charges against violent games must be dismissed even up as high as the Supreme Court. This is only because there is no real way to establish a definite connection between these games and the behaviors they endorse although common sense makes it obvious that one supports the other.
