Why I Chose Nursing
You may have heard the phrase “I've always wanted to become nurse “ a lot, right? Well for me it's a little different. Meaning, waking up and knowing that I wanted to be a nurse isn't actually how it came to be. As a young girl I've always had a passion for helping others, however, I didn't particularly know how I wanted to help. At the time, all that I had known was that I wanted to go beyond the everyday staple of lending a helping hand. Nonetheless, after countless hours spent in hospitals, I was able to choose a career in nursing, which later developed into, my purpose in life.

When I was young and carefree, I remember being rushed to the hospital by my parents because of an acquired gash that ran across the anterior side of my knee. After arriving, I remember being assured by the attending female nurse that I “was going to be just fine.” Within a few moments, after being

My grandfather of 75 years had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It's something about the word cancer itself that makes you feel unable to help the situation, but that's not true and my grandfather's nurses seemed to think otherwise as well. With that, I very much believed that he would fight his cancer into remission, despite the ongoing battles with immunotherapy. However, with much love and care, provided by his hospice nurses and family, he passed on December 3, 2017. Taken away from his battle with cancer, I've learned the importance of going after what you want in life because no one is guaranteed tomorrow. Every step that is made towards my future will be met with 110 percent. My dad always told me that “If you can't give it your all, then you absolutely cannot give it your best.” Therefore, while in nursing school I plan on doing all that I can to be the best because for me there is no “Plan B”, I have never wanted anything more than to become a

Nurses share the joys, pains, and triumphs of their patients. Everyday nurses show-up for duty, receive their patients, and without hesitation begin to become a valued member of an extended family. I initially went to school with the goal of becoming a medical doctor. At the time, I believed becoming a doctor was the only way I could ultimately give back to my community through my passion for science. I want to go into the pediatric nursing field for many reasons. I really enjoy working with kids especially little children. Volunteering at a saturday school with 4-5 year olds I became very good and comforting a child when sad or lonely. I work well with little children and enjoy being with them. I also want to go into nursing because every time I go to the doctors I always feel as if the nurses there do not enjoy their job. Which is probably wrong but they just always seem so monotone. I am half japanese so every summer when I go over to Japan and need to go to the doctors, the nurses there are always smiling trying to ease the tension between the child and the nurse themselves and that is the kind of nurse I want to be. I want to be a nurse like that in America to show people how much of a difference it could make and could lead to less fear of the doctors office. I see…

The first Character that I will be discussing is Joe, who throughout the movie was “living out” the philosophies of Immanuel Kant. In one scene of the movie Joe demonstrates the Categorical Imperative. He acted as he would want others to act if they were in his situation. In this scene many people came to Joe asking for something to build a fire, in order for them to eat. Joe had, then went up to the room he was staying in, grabbed the bed frame, dresser an wood he could find and helped the people build the fire for their food. Joe’s actions are morally good because they were done or the sake of duty. The reason he went there was because he wanted to make a change and help people. Joe throughout the movie had shown humility, even though he knew he was better off than them, he still helped them no matter what. In the end the suffering was too much for him and had left with the UN.…

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be a registered nurse. I come from a family where wearing scrubs has always been the normal work attire. My mother has been a registered nurse at a highly accredited oncology hospital for over twenty-five years, and my father a pharmacist for about twenty. I have aunts who are nurses and uncles who are doctors. For me, the health care profession always just seemed to be my future. When I first began my actual nursing journey I was worried that I had possibly chosen the profession simply because it was so common in my family, and that I never even really considered any other career. Luckily for me, my first day of clinical in “Introduction to Nursing” sealed the deal. It wasn’t the environment, the schedule, or even the salary that lead me to feel confident that I had chosen the right career path for myself. Instead, it was the overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment that I felt when I saw how my care and compassion could help another individual during a time of need.…
