Why I Want To Be A Biomedical Engineer

As a freshman at WPI, Biomedical Engineering interests me because I want to have a meaningful impact on the world. Specifically, I want to have the ability to affect the everyday lives of individuals. But why is Biomedical Engineering so unique when compared to other engineering disciplines? By definition, Biomedical engineers use engineering and science practices to improve the health and quality of life of individuals. Biomedical engineering a crucial discipline of engineering because it addresses one of the most paramount needs of the human race: health and well-being. I aspire to become a Biomedical Engineer during my time at WPI so I can make breakthroughs that can improve the health and quality of life of the human race, have an excellent opportunity of finding a job or internship, and because it is a field that deeply interests me.
In my opinion, Biomedical engineers are significant to society because they make creations that cater to the needs of civilization (ie. Medical equipment, medications, etc.). In a society that is defying old age more than ever before, Biomedical engineers allow humans to live survive longer than ever before, along with improving their quality of life while being alive. Experts have also projected that Biomedical Engineering is one of the fastest growing disciplines in the industry, and have asserted that graduates will have an easier time finding places of work. As a college student, it is important that I can find a job before or upon graduation. If I am unable to find a job, I will have no way to pay off my college loans or use my hard-earned education. The fact that Biomedical Engineering is a discipline that is doing well and will continue to grow in the future makes me confident that I will be able to find work before or upon
