Why I Want To Teach For America
I seek to join Teach For America for many reasons. One of the most prominent reasons I wish to join this organization is to give back to my community and communities similar to it. Being raised in inner-city Cleveland, I have seen many teachers come and go, and very few of those teachers were raised in the inner-city. Since I was raised in the inner-city, I feel as if I have a better understanding of the struggles that my students may have, and will be able to give them advice that I wish that I had at their age.
Another reason I wish to join Teach For America is because I miss the classroom. As an Education minor in college, I have over 100 hours of in-field experience teaching in the classroom. Since my first field experience in a fifth grade classroom, I have longed to see my own students’ smiles when they understand a concept for the first time or to help them when they become frustrated with a problem they do not think they will be able to solve. During one of my student-teaching experiences, I helped students create their own stories, and seeing the fun that they had creating their own worlds made me realize that teaching was something that I wanted to do in the coming years after.

When I first graduated college, I decided that I would go back to school for a Master’s in Education, but, because of financial responsibilities, I will not have the funds to go back to school and work full-time. My goals are to be able to work and live comfortably while supporting my mother who has struggled, living in poverty with a minimum wage job as a single mother of three. These are my three most important reasons for joining Teach For

Stephanie Wujek decided to teach in the small community of Wiggins, Colorado because she attended a small school and wanted to be able to give back to a community that was similar to hers. She likes teaching in a small town because she gets to see her students grow and can easily connect with the parents and other community members. The article "Giving Back to the Community" by Rick Docksai talks about how teachers feel about giving back to the community. Rick selected a teacher, in particular, that is starting the teach some of her science and social lessons at the nearby park. I would like to invite you to be a panelist on Thursday, June 16th for Corps Member Induction. The panel will take place at the Grandview Library (500 W. Main St.) from 1:30 - 2:15. This panel is a crucial part of the induction of our corps members. Before the panel starts, our teachers will have spent the week exploring the Pacific Northwest, telling their own story and hearing stories. The week starts off with teachers sharing their own story of self, and then hearing the story of the Teach For America region and its values and priorities. The structure the stories is based on the research done by Marshall Ganz. We see this panel as a place for teachers to hear stories of Eastern Washington (aka South Central Washington) from your…

I was inspired to work within the field of education by several individuals within my family that have gone on and receive bachelor’s degrees, masters and even doctoral degrees. That has given me the drive to become a teacher; an African-American male teacher who did not have a good up-bringing and who is able to make a difference for those that maybe walking down the same path as I did. Furthermore, I believe I belong here at Bethune-Cookman University because it has been invested within me and I am a diamond…

I have always aspired to make an impact on the world. Teaching in an urban school setting will enable me to make a positive impact and fulfill my share in this world while working a job I am passionate about. Students in urban schools are frequently looked over and are not taken seriously. Society does not expect students in urban schools to make it far in life, and often these children do not receive the opportunities other students receive. However we, as a society, fail to recognize the capabilities and talents all students, even in urban schools, embody. Students in urban schools are just as intelligent and worthy of success as anyone else. I want to take part to ensure…

Generations of people have lived in America, and each generation has held its own opinion on what being an American means. Every individual has their own story of how they came to be American and what they believe that this title can do for them. I grew up here. My parents and grandparents grew up here. To me being an American is not about how you got here or how long you have been here. It is about why you are here and what you plan to do with your life. My mom was the first in her family to graduate college, and my dad never went to college. This caused my parents to place a huge emphasis on education. Attending a private school I really received a great education. Then my dad lost his job and I had to attend a public school which was brand new experience. The classes were larger and there weren't many resources available. For instance, we had to sometimes share books with other students because we didn't have enough for everyone. With this setback we still had amazing teachers who were passionate about teaching. My teachers throughout the years showed me the importance of dedicated and passionate educators. These experiences led to my interest in Teach For America and their mission to strengthen the educational equity m. I think I will be a great fit for Teach For America because I received an education in a low income…

I have had the chance to serve as a tutor, a peer advisor, and as a teaching assistant for a variety of courses while I was an undergraduate and in my current role as an AmeriCorps VISTA. Through these positions, I had to chance to lead class periods and I have found that I enjoy teaching at the university level, as compared to the times that I have helped with elementary and middle school classes. I fully enjoy seeing students finally understand a concept they have had trouble with and connecting students with their passion. Watching them take that spark and ignite it into something much larger than themselves has been one of the most rewarding…

After volunteering in my children’s classrooms for years, I decided I would go to school to at least become a teacher’s aid. At the time I had met a teacher, Mrs. Zinno I told her my plans of becoming a teachers aid, she suggested that if I was going to go back to school for two years just to be an aid, why not go for another two years and become a teacher. I did alternative certification to become a paraprofessional or a teacher’s aide. When I completed my paraprofessional certification I still felt that it was just not enough. The words of Mrs. Zinno stuck in my head, I knew if I could complete this I could keep going; I set my goals higher. I attended Tarrant County College and received my Associates Degree; then I thought, “why stop here?” So, I continued to work on an Associates in Education.…

Finally, I take pleasure in creating a warm and inviting classroom culture with my students.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…
