    Why Is Jay Gatsby Great

The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, has a rather ambiguous and inaccurate title. Narrator, Nick Carraway, re-tales a story that seems to be unfairly biased on the description of Long Island’s West and East Eggs, but also on the portrayal of the characters involved in this story, particularly, the portrayal of Jay Gatsby. In a world where corruption is around every corner, Nick is quick to dislike everyone that surrounds him, except for Gatsby, Nick grows admiration for a man that might just be as corrupt as the rest. Nick partakes in Gatsby’s adventure to reunite love -- having to question the morality of his actions every now-and-then -- this adventure makes everyone beg the question; “is Jay Gatsby great?”…

My name is Julia and I am in my early twenties, and I would have never have imagined that I would one day be going back to school to earn my college degree. My mother and fiancé encouraged me to pursue it, because of my love of art and talking to people, marketing and public relations and that it would be very expensive since I wanted to go to college in America but could not afford it at the time. They were very supportive from the start; my fiancé assisting me in writing notes on flash cards and giving me pop quizzes and my mom reminding me to complete homework assignments when I was busy doing household chores. To me, my life was going great as I advanced further toward my future goals.…

Due to my family’s financial state, finances were my biggest concern for college when selecting a quality institution that was most affordable. Thankfully, I am financially supported by the Pell Grant, Georgia's Zell-Miller Scholarship, the University of Georgia's One scholarship for diversity, and my work as a resident assistant. Because of these resources, I am able to pursue higher education without significant financial burdens. My experiences related to financial difficulties have enabled me to be appreciative of the privileges I have now and to empathize with everyone I meet, no matter what type of background they come from.…

I always loved school, and I was a fast learner. I was praised for my accomplishments at an early age and I believe that the satisfaction I gained from impressing others was motivation that impacted my future. I continued to do the best I could in school. My mother was very strict and tough on me when reviewing my work, ripping my essays if I wrote in sloppy handwriting and erasing all of my math problems if I got more than one wrong. It was emotionally difficult but I eventually toughened up, and her training made me a more diligent student. The only motivation I would have was the praise I would receive for amazing scores on my work. Eventually, I stopped being praised and it was devastating for me. I entered middle school and I continued…

Breakfast at Tiffany’s is an interesting novel because it is unlike anything I have ever read before. It starts off as a bit confusing and boring, but then casually goes to bring the main idea of the story. The book is non-fiction and more of a short story-type novel. It talks about a woman named Holly Golightly, living in an apartment in New York, and described her constant behavior. I felt that the book was hard to understand because it contained a deeper meaning within the whole plot and story. The book therefore, was one of the most interesting novels that I have read so far because it contained a meaning that I understood well, while others didn’t.…

I come from a family of six with only one parent who works as a painter. His income is just enough to pay for our food, bills, rent, and personal needs. Considering attending Houston Baptist University, a private college, I know it will be very expensive. For this reason I think about and stress over about how I will cover payments for college repeatedly. Out of all the reasons I wouldn’t be able to attend college, I don’t want money to be the reason why I won’t be able to pursue my degree.…

Today my appreciation is stronger than ever. The university I have chosen not only provides me with a top-notch education, but also teaches me about real-life skills and communication. But due to a high financial cost needed to attend the school, I am very limited on my resources. My mother has a hard time taking care of the household, raising three boys, and keeping a good job all at once. My father is, unfortunately, not in the picture at all. It would really ease the burden on my shoulders if I had received the money for college tuition, and not fully depend on my mother to make my dreams come true. I want to avoid being in debt after observing my cousin working long hours to pay back his loans. It would also help me reduce the stress which I may face concerning financial aid; therefore I can focus easily on my education in the classes.…
