Why Is Censoring Dangerous
Is it dangerous? When does the power that bans and censors certain aspects of media become dangerous, and when is it okay? Censoring and the banning of certain things is always okay if it doesn’t put the public in danger or won’t affect the views of the American people. However, there is a very thin line that the government can cross that could really make censorship and banning a very serious and dangerous topic. Censoring plays a huge part in movies and television shows. A lot of curse words and vulgar words that are not acceptable to say in a normal conversation are censored. Whether a show or movie is censored depends on the television channel. For example, ABC Family would censor out anything they thought might be offensive to children and families; while …show more content…
When censoring is used in this situation I think it is very helpful because if I wouldn’t want children to be watching something offensive that threw out curse words like regular English. Censoring starts to become dangerous when something is censored that could possibly change the perspective people have over a higher ranking authority. If you read an article about the government and one paragraph was completely censored out and beneath black lines the article says that the government was keeping secrets that could affect the perspective that the American people have over them. That could be extremely dangerous. That little piece of that article could affect every American citizen and their well being. Banning is the along the same lines of censorship but instead of taking out a word, sentence, or paragraph, the whole movie, show, book, or article is gone. “Partial Terms of Endearment” is a Family Guy episode that was completely banned from television in 2009. The reason this season 8 episode was banned, not to go into too much detail, was because the

There could be many reasons why people have to need to censor, and it usually depends on the type of government a certain country has and the type of citizens they have. And by type I mean by their race, religion, what they are interested in, what they do as a career, etc. A good example of this situation could be the book “Fahrenheit 451”. Besides from comic books and pornography, every single type of books are censored, from the religious texts to the fiction chapter books. Although books are the main things that are censored from this society, but without books, many other things have changed. Things such as it is illegal to be a pedestrian because people don’t have time to drive slowly and stop for others, therefore people drive really fast and if someone is pedestrian, they could get run over.…

The act of censorship has many consequences, one of them being the inability to think for oneself. If people are not presented with controversial material they won't be able to form their own opinions or ideas. This allows those in power to easily control and brainwash its citizens through censored information. The people of this society have no other choice but to believe the information…

There are some times where it is needed little, and also times where it is not needed at all. And even the times it is needed, it is not needed to the extent that it is used. There are very many ways censorship is bad for this country, and very few ways it is actually needed. Censorship in the knowledge of other countries, censorship from the government, censorship in technology, and censorship in learning are just few ways censorship is misused in the U.S. Everyone knows, as well as the pro-censorship believers, that censorship is misused in some areas. And that other areas it is not needed at all. Anyone that is pro-censorship knows well enough that it is wrong, the way it is misused. To close my argument i would like to point out the fact that pro-censorship believers have no real reason behind why it is a good thing, and cannot prove wrong that it is bad for not only children, but everyone in america. Now, i would like to resm my case by again saying to simply look into the negatives and positives of censorship, and see which one outweighs the…

    2. The First Amendment grants each citizen the right to freely express him or herself as he or she chooses. This is not without restraint. Network television and radio have the right to censor offensive content. NBC will never show full-frontal nudity. WWNO will never broadcast “bad” words. There are also restrictions for the sake of public safety. One can be arrested for yelling “fire” in a crowded theater because the panicked reaction might cause injury or death. This kind of rule has also caused great debate on whether the instructions to…

Our culture should not have censored material. I think that if you have censored material it is hiding away part of the real world. Keeping controversial and upsetting material away from the public eye promotes ignorance and stupidity, but I feel that sometimes there should be limitations for the comfort of others. Overall, people should become more open minded and except the fact that they are going to see or hear things they do not want to. I think if you do not like something, then do not do anything that has to do with it. In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury he shows that censoring material causes people to become lazy and not think.…

To censor is to ban or cut portions of a publication, film, letter, etc. For as long as literature has existed, so has censorship. Forms of censorship include banning and burning books and editing previously published literature. Who is to decide what books should be accessible? Censorship protects our children from seeing what could possibly damage them mentally and keeps things that should not be seen in public to stay in the shadows. Many people hate censorship because they think it takes away their freedom of speech. It doesn’t because as long as the people don’t say things that should be said they won’t be censored. Censorship stops things from being seen that shouldn’t be. Censorship is a necessity for the new…
