Why Is Grey's Anatomy Beneficial To Read?
“It's a beautiful day to save lives” is one of the most famous quotes said in Grey's Anatomy by one of it's main characters, Derek Sheppard. Grey's Anatomy is a medical drama series on a group of doctors that started their careers as interns and grew into amazing surgeons at a hospital in Seattle. The series shows patients that just have a cold to patients that have 3D printed organs in them. Grey's Anatomy is one of the most watched shows on netflix and/or cable. The series inspire many people into the medical field but also has many people sitting around watching tv all day long. Many people don't put much thought into watching tv, but is Grey's Anatomy beneficial to watch? Grey's Anatomy has taught me personally so many medical terms I would have never learned without watching the show like hematoma which is the swelling of clotted blood within the tissues of the brain. The series shows real life scenarios with patients and doctors. You get to see first hand what happens in a trauma, a surgery, organ transplant and everything that takes place in a hospital. The show also teaches different medical jobs like an anesthesiologist, physicians, nurses, pharmacy, chief of surgery, …show more content…
Many subscribers now aday are obsessed and don't do anything but watch the series all day long. It would take about 168 hours to watch the whole series which is about 7 days. Many people stay up and watch the show and lose abundant of sleep that they need. The series is not all based off medicine, it also involves drama and the relationships of these surgeons. The surgers on the show only take up about ⅓ of the show while the drama of the show takes up the rest of the time. There is a lot of drama that deals with the relationship of these surgeons which takes away from learning more about the medicine in this show. Grey's Anatomy is more a drama series than a informational/ medical

With the role out of ObamaCare and the ability to give healthcare for all, the healthcare community as a whole has seen some major changes. Yes the basic idea of every person having access to the care needed is a beautiful concept but at what cost, due the large influx of patients there has been more attention drawn to the lack of physicians caring for these patients. It is estimated that by 2020 there will be a shortage of approximately 90,000 physicians, which is a growth of nearly 30,000 from 2015 according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ, 2013). Due to this influx of millions of patients in the healthcare system physicians are forced to see as many patients as possible in a day cutting the appointment times down to 10-15 minutes often giving the patients the feeling they are seen in a conveyor belt type of setting. As a result patients are not receiving the care and attention they need and desire and physicians are receiving lower reimbursement rates and are flat out getting burnt out.…

Grey’s Anatomy, a medical drama that has been on air for the past 11 years, is my all-time favorite show. Not only is the plot of the series extremely riveting and tear-jerking, but the characters are all able to relate to an aspect of your life even through your most difficult hardships, especially the protagonist, Meredith Grey. Meredith Grey, is known for her well-roundedness not due to her ability as a surgeon (as she is the head of General Surgery), but because of her willingness to aid others when they’re in times of trouble. This is especially true when it comes to her best friends; Christina Yang, Isabella Stevens, Alex Karev, and George O’Malley; who struggle through deaths, countless failed relationships, and illnesses throughout…

The amount of time consumption this job has with paperwork, and etc... can be very aggravating. In the Forbes article, Why Do So Many Doctors Regret Their Job Choice?, it states, “33% of doctors spend more than 10 hours a week on paperwork and administration”, and Korn says, “It’s a crushing burden that no doctor enjoys.” The amount of time spent on paperwork within a week is truly “a crushing burden”(“Why Do So Many Doctors Regret Their Job Choice” 2), but is one of the reasons why money can make the profession of a doctor undesirable. Though to many doctors the amount of paperwork can be aggravating, to some Also in the article, Why Doctors Are Sick of Their Profession, Jauhar says that 84% of doctors stated, they didn’t have enough time to spend with their patients because of paperwork [...]” (Jauhar 2).…

On a more positive note I loved the reality show NY Med which was filmed in NY Presbyterian Hospital on the upper east side in Manhattan. It was realistic and showed the life of nurses and doctors on an everyday basis. It showed real events that take place in the ER and what the nurses actually do. I think this show portrayed a realistic view of what nurses do. Nurses work hard and have to constantly critically think and use their judgment. They work very long hours and sometimes forget to hydrate themselves like me! I think nurses don’t get enough credit sometimes because of some of these shows.…

Nobody likes hospitals. In fact, nobody likes going to the doctor in general. The irony of that is medical dramas are extraordinarily popular in the United States. There is something about the genius mixture of learning about the human body and our relationships with other people that makes Americans obsessed. Grey’s Anatomy is undoubtedly one of the most popular medical dramas in the United States. Grey’s Anatomy first premiered in 2005, and has gone on to have thirteen seasons and counting. What keeps viewers interested after thirteen long seasons is the way Shonda Rhimes, the writer of the series, has no problem with suddenly changing the whole direction of the show. While she changes the show, she retains a necessary overall structure that…

I chose to research a cardiothoracic surgeon because of the show Grey’s Anatomy. Cardio Surgeons manages other diseases like hypertension, diabetes, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), asthma, and hypothyroid. They perform histories and physical exams and they handle daily patient rounds. I would like this job because it is an intense high paying and high demand job. I do think I would pursue this because it would be very interesting and a lot of…

Having proved her mettle for 12 years, fans are however not convinced of the fact that the phasing out of the character is for good, and are therefore freaked out at her sudden revelation on Twitter. The worry behind the exit of the doctor’s character seemed logical as that followed the trend of Shonda Rhimes removing characters specifically those who worked at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.…

There are two instances in my life that has inspired me to gain interest in medicine. My grandmother when I was around the age of twelve received double bypass surgery and I fell in love with the physician who took care of her. The physician was a middle aged woman who was one of the kindest person I have ever met, and she gave us the news of how everything went fine during surgery. She also gave us great confidence in how my grandmother would return to normal soon. The look on my parents and aunts face when she gave the news gave me goosebumps and to this day I feel the same goosebumps when I think about this. I just wanted to one day be in a position to deliver good news to a family and to see that “look” of relief on their faces. Another…

I was raised with almost everyone in my family working in the medical field. We have marine Doctors, nurses of all sorts, therapists, and even behind the scene medical family members working in jobs like medical billing and coding. Growing up and hearing stories at family gatherings of their experiences, always left me on the edge of my chair. I would not go play barbies with my cousins or basketball with the uncles I was the kid eavesdropping in on the adult conversations. I wanted to know more but most of all I was intrigued.…

My interest in the health field dates back to when I was twelve years old. My grandmother had suffered a massive stroke and the left side of her body was paralyzed. From that very moment in our lives, I became very involved with the paperwork and the health of my grandmother. I have witnessed the effect on her as well as my family of her stroke, craniotomy, heart attacks, seizures, chest pains, amputation of her leg, therapy, to so much more. Yes, this was a huge impact on my life as a young individual, but it allowed me to mature. With the great guidance from my school and family members it was a part of my life that I was able to get through. Learning what she went through, translating the comments from doctors to my parents, and vice versa, and informing my grandmother and my parents what the use of each…

This was especially demonstrated to me while I volunteered at Columbia Hospital. I was tasked with feeding an irritable patient that was paralyzed from the neck down for the past 30 years. A simple 25-minute lunch turned into a two-hour long conversation. Being in that room with him instilled a deep sense of sympathy that I knew would be necessary in a field where doctors use facile explanations of illnesses to their patients. Patients often don’t understand the full extent of their illness and neither do their loved ones. It is important for doctors to have the ability to sympathize with their patients. After our conversation, the patient had become significantly more cooperative with the staff. It was such a motivating and educational experience to see how a volunteer, of all people, could improve the standard of care for a patient. I can only imagine the impact a physician could make.…
