In the article “Why One Women Carries a Pistol” by Linda M. Hasselstrom, Hasselstrom is a woman on a mission. She strongly believes women should carry pistols to defend themselves from being attacked or raped. Hasselstrom learned that any female around the age of twelve can expect to be criminally assaulted, and women around the age of thirty have a fifty-fifty chance of being raped, robbed or attacked. The percentage in guns purchased by women went up and they even modified the weapons to be lighter and smaller so women can be more comfortable using them. I believe women are getting tired of being abused and treated like they are powerless against men. Hasselstrom believes a gun can change man’s perception on women being weak and powerless. I would have to agree with her, a gun is a powerful tool to have. For four years Hasselstrom gave speeches, readings, and workshops on self defense driving more than a hundred miles alone. She is a woman who is obsessed with self defense and she can be a little crazy sometimes. Everywhere she goes she carries her gun by her side, when she is sleeping a rifle is always by her bedside. She is a very skilled woman and loves to train herself to be better. She learned how to fire pistols and rifles but she uses her skills for self defense purposes only. She also learned the arts of Kung Fu to teach herself the safe distance to keep between her and a stranger and she can try to elude them with some Kung Fu tactics to get away. Knifes are a part of her arsenal too, Hasselstrom states “Knives are another useful tool often misunderstood and misused”. Hasselstrom would carry a pocket knife with her and she sees it as a useful tool to use and not for hanging up on a wall or for decorations. It’s another tool that she can
