Why People Exercise

Many people love to exercise and many people can’t stand the idea of doing physical activity. The want to exercise has to be a choice that comes from within. There are many reasons as to why people make the decision to start exercising, and there are multiple positive effects that can result from working out consistently.

There are various reasons as to why people make the decision to start going to the gym or engage in physical activity. A lot of times there’s more than one reason why people exercise. One reason why people choose to exercise is because of health reasons. About 4 years ago I hadn’t been feeling well so I decided to go see my doctor. After some test he told me I was border line diabetic. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family and I’ve seen a lot of my family members on different medications, get their limbs amputated, and even die from it. My doctor told me the only way to no longer be border line diabetic was to start eating healthier and working out. I knew at that moment I had to do something about my weight. I knew I did not want to suffer like most of my family members did. As a result of the information my doctor had given me, I joined a gym, started to work out, and began to eat a lot healthier. Another reason why people work out is to feel good about themselves and boost their self esteem. If someone who is overweight feels like they don’t fit in or like they’re not beautiful or handsome they may start to work out. Growing up I was always heavier than my cousins and my friends. My self esteem and confidence was very low and I never got the attention from guys like my friends did. Even though I did not show it, it caused me to feel ugly, jealous, and like I was not good enough. There are no bad reasons when it comes to deciding on being healthier.

There are a lot of good things that can come from working out and staying fit. One

After a twelve-hour work day, rushing home to the kids and to cook supper, is there ever any time to exercise? The benefits of exercise strongly outweigh the reasons to sit on the couch and eat potato chips. Most of our population is not only obese but out of shape. If a person is five feet four inches and two hundred pounds does not mean they are out of shape. They may not be in their average suggested weight, but if their muscle percentage is more than their fat, then they are above most of the population. While choosing to obtain a healthy and active lifestyle it lead me to change my major to Health and Exercise Science. In the text it discusses barriers that can negatively affect compliance, and from being in the same situation I can agree that those barriers are real. I would complain in nursing school the reason I would not go to the gym would be lack of time, lack of knowledge on what machines and equipment to use, and being ashamed to enter a gym afraid of being stared at. This kind of food is being fed to children and teenagers and causing many problems to them with risks of early health issues and low self-esteem issues with the weight gain. According to the Mayoclinic.com (2009), “Obesity is defined as having an excessive amount of body fat. Obesity is more than just a cosmetic concern, though. It increases your risk of diseases and health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.” With having these known facts, why would people advance on gaining excessive weight. Self-motivation is a hard issue to accomplish for many people and can be why they prefer to ignore the problem and continue to keep eating unhealthy and not exercising. Exercising is a great deal to the human body and can cause a great difference in a person’s health. Exercising can be done in many ways and not even hard to accomplish, such as a small walk around the block to begin with, something the whole family can do together. Sit ups and crunches can be done at home while watching TV, using cans from the kitchen cupboards to lifts as small weights. All these exercising are great just to start off with.…

Finding the right place to exercise is very important. If a person can find the right atmosphere to exercise, then it can be that much more enjoyable to exercise. There are many places that people like to go and exercise. Some of these places include a gym, a park, a residence, a quiet neighborhood, etc. A great place to exercise is at home. Many people love exercising at home because you have privacy and it’s indoors so you don’t have to worry about people watching you exercise and making you feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, many people prefer the gym atmosphere because it allows them to lift weights, and meet new people.
