Why Should Paying College Athletes?

Paying College Athletes Max Scherzer, a professional baseball player, said “When you get drafted out of high school, you're going to be going into the minor leagues, and that can take three to five or six years — multiple years — in the minor leagues, and you're forfeiting your right to further your education”. He said this when he was talking to CSN’s, Santana Moss, on him choosing college over going pro right away. Scherzer choose to go to college, and not get paid, so he could get his education. He understood the value of an education, something that a lot of athletes today do not. There are many arguments that say only men’s basketball and football should be paid but these are all male sports and even if it is justified by those being the sports that bring in the most money there would still be problems with people thinking it is unfair. Even Scoop Jackson, an ESPN Senior Writer, agrees with this as “There is no system of payment that can be put in place that is fair across the board to all students, all sports and all schools that participate in college athletics”. The last thing we need is to cause more problems in our society.
One of the biggest arguments for college athletes to be paid is that being an athlete is a full time job and because of this they have no time to get any sort of job. This is very true, however the main reason these athletes would want to get a job is to have extra spending money but if you think about it those students who have the time to get a job, all of the money they make is not for extra spending money but to pay for actual school which the athletes get for
