provides better opportunities for working parents to get off of work. Schools should go year round because students will retain information, holiday breaks will be more spread out, and students school performance will improve. When summer break is shorter, students will better retain information from the previous grade. When students go to the next grade, they need to remember information so that they have a basis to learn new information. For example, when starting Algebra ii, students need to know content from Algebra i . Knowing past information will save time at the beginning of the year. If students don’t know last year’s content, teachers must take time at the beginning of the year to re teach what they already know. When students start English in ninth grade, they must remember writing techniques from elementary and middle school. Retaining information from previous grades will make learning new material easier. When students know something relating to a new, tougher topic, they can use that to make the topic easier to learn and get better grades. An example of this is when students start a new writing lesson, they use writing skills that they learned in the middle school. While retaining information over shorter breaks is important, spreading out holiday breaks is also important. Secondly, when summer break is shortened, other holiday breaks will be made longer. When schools reduce summer break, they have to lengthen other holiday breaks in other seasons. For example, schools operate 180 days out of the year, so you have to lengthen other holidays for fairness. Other holidays need to be lengthened so families can still go on vacation and have time together. Most families take vacation during summer because it is most convenient. When this break is shortened, new time off needs to be added to make up for this loss in time. Next, time must be equally spread amongst the new lengthened Holiday breaks. If summer is to be shortened, that time must be equally divided among the rest. An example would be taking two weeks of lost summer break and add it to winter break. When shortening summer break for students, lengthening other holiday’s is important, but an increase in students school performance is also important. Lastly, when summer time is shortened for students, their school performance will improve.
If students are away from school for a shorter amount of time, they will not forget information and will remember how to work properly. For example, if students are away for a long time, they will forget how to work and act in the school environment. However, if they are not of as long, then they will remember more and act properly in school. Staying in school for longer periods of time will make students get better grades. When students stay in school and work more, they will have more practice and perform better on tests, leading to students obtaining better grades. Finally, with summer break shortened, school life will ultimately improve. With students being in school together for longer time frames, they will have to be around each other longer, and that will cause new friendships to be made and relationships to form. As the old saying goes, “ Friends in high school are friends for life.” Some people say that summer break should not be shortened and school should not go year round. This is wrong because when summer break is shortened and school goes year round, students ultimately benefit because their grades improve and they retain information over the
summer. More spread out holiday breaks, retaining information, and improved performance of students are the reasons why schools should go year round. In this new technological world, having an education is very important. Having a high school diploma is important to your education, so staying in school for longer times will help students study more and get better grades. Longer summer breaks are not beneficial for students learning. More schools should implement shorter summer breaks and year round school because it benefits students education and will cause more students to graduate and live successful lives.
