Winter Camp Memo
Hello Mr. Dowd,

I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer. Sorry to take so long to respond.

To answer a few of your questions:
I plan to apply for Winter Camp this year, my first choice would be to serve as a counselor again but I am happy to help out elsewhere if there is a need.
For Amazing Race, it has been really nice that the dorms haven't been timed between stations the last year or two. You will see by the date of my letter, that our quarters are changed. We came to Indianapolis last Tuesday and were walked without a moment's delay to Camp Carrington where ae are presently digs in. We have wonderful quarters here, everything is agreeable and masterminded helpful and methodicallly. The camp here looks to some degree military, other than we have disipline. The young men are somewhat sad they can't have such simple times as they had at Camp Lindsay. They don't care to have the rules drawn so firmly at the same time.…

Usually inbreeding is a great tool used to get more of the desired traits in livestock, but when it comes to wild animals the outcome is not as successful. I feel that inbreeding is only harmful to wild animals because unlike domesticated animals wild animals are not in a controlled environment. I believe that there is much more effort put into conserving endangered species in the wild. After all the programs made for red wolves, they still seem to not be at the desired or expected population…

My time being camp counselor was definitely one of the best experiences I've had so far. My experience as a camp counselor I acquired leadership skills, organized activities, identified and responded to behavioral problems, and communicated concerns with parents. I believe my experience as a camp counselor has already provided me a good foundation for being a teacher. I intend to be apart of Teach for America to explore my strengths, weaknesses, and acquire teaching techniques to address the different needs of individual learners. I believe the teacher’s role will help me to develop myself, both academically and personally. Being an educator you make an influential impact on a child’s life that will shape their youth, and stay with them through adulthood. I have every confidence that I have the necessary qualities to become a school teacher and be apart of the Teach For America…

Communication is a necessary skill that can be obtained on the job. While working at Cub Scouts summer camp I learned how to communicate with both adults and children. When talking to the camp ranger or directors, I needed to have a formal tone in oreder to maintain a sense of professionalism. However, when talking to the kids, I could be more relaxed at times, yet remain stern. For instance, when working in the "tot lot", I was allowed to play on the water slide with the little kids. But I also had to make sure they were following the rules to ensure their safety. Of course, no matter who I was communicating with, being clear was important. Especially when working as an instructor and having to teach children how to swim. If I wasn't clear…
