Purpose:
The purpose of our project is to help generate innovation within our Canadian economy. Research shows that Canada – as a developed country – has very little to do with innovation in our world. Toronto, being the largest city in the country and Ryerson University being strategically placed in the heart of downtown, we feel that our campus and students have a major role in the solution for this “innovation crisis.” Our idea not only generates innovation through sculpting Ryerson’s image but through giving back to our students as well. We plan to implement solar panels on one of our school buildings. The energy from these solar panels can then be sold back to the company of our choice and in turn becomes a steady revenue stream. The “placement” of this capital is not yet decided but such options include; creating a scholarship program, investing in start-ups that are created from Ryerson students, expanding the solar panel project etc. We believe this is the best way to breed innovation within Ryerson and in turn, within Canada, while simultaneously promoting the use of an environmentally friendly renewable energy source.
Scope of Work: The work that needs to be done in the initiation phase will include fundraising by the school and outside sources, measurements and estimating total cost of labor fees, architecture, design, building fees etc. Organizing as well as making a schedule for all the workers involved, finding suppliers, and any subcontract work will play a major role. We will create a schedule that includes the planning phases, work period, and time after the project is completed. A maintenance program involving the chosen company, who installs the solar panels, will be implemented to end the project. As project managers we will be meeting once a week to discuss time frames, issues, accounting problems etc.,
