The Trader Joe’s markets are generally rather small, and often rather crowded. There are no national brands, just Trader Joe branded merchandise and specialty foods. The quality of the food is impressive, though one can come across an occasional bad item. If you have upscale tastes, shopping at Trader Joe’s is a delight.…
Sam Walton was known to be industrious, always trying to get the most out of money, and had a burning ambition to succeed. This was evident in his book Sam Walton, Made in America, My Story. He was a hard working individual who helped his family through the depression, started his own business from almost nothing and changed the field of management for ever.…
In her essay, Welty remembers the importance of this store and how it shaped her family. The purpose of doing so is to describe the pure innocence of youth, in which a corner store can prove to be mesmorizing. Welty captures this youthful feeling as she describes the scene in which she “skipped [her] jumping rope up and down [the sidewalk], hopped it’s length through mazes of hopscotch, played jacks in its islands of shades, serpentined along it on [her] Princess bicycle, skated it backward and forward” (Welty par. 4). These seemingly playful and simple events are made complex and intricate with the use of words such as “serpentined” and “mazes”. By doing so, Welty is adding to the subject in which events of your childhood seem more interesting than as an adult. The tone of her essay is rather casual and playful. Welty captures her mental image of store when describing the “enchantment [that] is cast upon you by all those things you weren’t supposed to have need fore, it lures you close to wooden tops you’d outgrown, boy’s marbles and agates in little net pouches...” (Welty par. 8). This enchantment blinded Welty to what normally would be viewed as disguisting and dirty. For example, the tangible smells- “dill-pickle brine that had leaked through a paper sack in a fresh trail across the wooden floor” and “the smell of…
As soon as the young females had entered the “A&P” store two of the other cashiers had seemed to Trudged their eyes over to the young individuals as they were walking around the bread and promenade themselves toward sammy's check out. Gawking them the whole time the kids were in the store. Going from aisle to aisle getting dayley grocery materials for everyday use was going from aisle to aisle disappearing from sammy's vision .…

She watched as he “looks at her fur” trying to figure out if she was “in his power”. The young man can take her fur coat, briefcase and even her life. From the start the narrator felt threatened by the boy from what she believed he was capable to do based on the color of his skin. She then turns…
He had crossed the lot in a beeline towards the edge of the stores, turning the corner and clinging to the walls of the building as a drizzle of rain begun. The air was humid and produced a metallic aroma. He was nearing the large cubes of air conditioning units behind the buildings, and they drowned the small noises of the swaying trees and crunching leaves. Living as he was, he had begun to pick up the noises they made.…
The glee occupied court for the tiny children at Pine Crest School is a place full of action and delicious sweets. The Mazer Family Dining Hall brings forth the activeness and energy of petite Pine Crest children. The aroma that derives from the kitchen is an incredible, delicious symphony of smells. The lilliputian children's feet noisily “stomp stomp stomp,” awaiting the delicious sugar cookies. The younglings are as cheerful as a dog with a new chew toy. One can feel the children’s taste buds dance as they ate their scrumptious meal. In the Mazer Family Dining Hall, due to the boiling water, the taste of humidity and the aroma of delicious, greasy chicken nuggets is present. The cries of the moppets are very substantial as they impatiently…
They might even notice the two gentleman who flip houses together that walk so close to each other that they hand lightly brush against each as they walk indicating they are very comfortable with each other. This observation is simply the face of the clock and does not reveal what really make this store tick, it is necessary to really take it apart to understand this store.…
Up higher, businesses ring their bells and call out their competitive deals as the church bell’s peals sing loud and clear. The wonderful scents from the bakery and the sea mix into an irresistible aroma as the lively town square…
Food Inc is a documentary about the state of the food industry within the United States. It was a very in depth look at the farming industry that most people don’t get a chance to see. Most people don’t really think about where the food comes from or how it was farmed. This documentary gave a clear insight into how our food is really produced. When you think of farming, you may think of an area of land which is devoted primarily to the practice of producing and managing food, but in this documentary we learned that most of our food is actually produced in mega factories. Since there is such a high demand for processed food these days, farmers are artificially growing their crops.…
However, he instead comes across a french cafe and a stall selling tea sets and vases. These symbols warn him that the bazaar is a “fake”. He is disheartened at the sight, and realization dawns upon him that there is nothing worth buying from the remaining of the bazaar. He soon loses his admiration for the girl because he does not care, which is a symbol of growing up because the infactuation he had with her was a child’s play. He has lost everything in a simple trip to a bazaar, but at the same time gained a better understanding of both himself and the world. “Gazing up into the darkness I saw myself as a creature driven and derided by vanity; and my eyes burned with anguish and anger.” The boy has lost his innocence and sanity, which is replaced with frustration at himself and the world. He realizes that he has wasted his time for a girl and put his hope’s too high for the bazaar, puting other priorities below them, and therefore failing them all.…
His first description of sound, “there was a brass bell hanging over the front door that summoned me from the workshop when somebody came in” (William) and his second description using hearing, “I put a Mozart CD on the stereo and switched on the electric heater in the shop” (William). These descriptions add more detail to the shop and breathe some life into it. The mix of an occasional ding of the bell, classical music, and the gentle buzz of the heater, is helping shape up what seems to be a very cozy and inviting…
Food is an essential part of our lives. We consume it every day and absolutely need it to live and thrive successfully. With something so significant to us, why should we risk the source of where our food comes from? Robert Kenner created a powerhouse documentary film called Food Inc. that gives an accurate description of the horrible realities of corporate farming by providing evidence of the harm affecting both humans and animals. Robert Kenner is a film director and producer. Kenner claims that today; food can be potentially harmful to the health of any consumer and the process of creating certain foods is detrimental to the lives of the animals and humans involved in the procedure. Kenner demonstrates his argument by using the effect of pathos, exemplification, and imagery. Pathos in this film displays a depressing feel to the documentary to appeal to the emotional aspect of viewers. Pathos is represented through the size and living conditions of chickens at Tyson farms and the death of a child named Kevin by E. coli poisoning. Exemplification is used by Kenner to display examples of Kenner’s argument and how they relate to each claim. Exemplification is seen through the versatility of corn and result of cows that have been fed corn. Imagery is important to this film because it leaves a descriptive representation of the concepts, making them more understandable. Imagery is effective to the tone of the movie, especially in scenes such as the living conditions of the chickens, how much manure is involved with cows in the slaughterhouse, and the conditions of workers in the Smithfield slaughterhouse.…
Into a convenient store, I see a few familiar faces without surprise. ‘Oily Bill’ is sitting beside the window wiping his mouth with his dirty hands as usual. I can feel goose bumps running down my back seeing such a disgusting scene. I think I just lost my appetite from breakfast. Little Sam is cashing out in a counter. He is probably buying cigarettes, I thought. I remembered someone mentioned last week that he started smoking. It is such a shame that a young life is ruined by temptation of cigarettes. Lily miss Kitty is buying food for her cats again. When is she going to realize no matter how many cats she takes care of, she is still going to be a lonely old woman? Feeling extremely uncomfortable, I clench my fists and walk fast across the aisle, trying to retrieve a can of coffee without the need of greeting any one of them here. I don’t want to talk to…
Nothing particular stuck out at me at first, I gazed around, from table to table, and only noticed the general routines you would expect to find at any mall food court. Employee’s meeting on their lunch breaks, stay at home mom’s getting a quick bite at chik-fil-a as they drag their children along to the next errand, and the elderly in no hurry to get anywhere specific. It was the same mundane routine through the course of the first hour, it only being four in the afternoon, many kids were still in school, and adults at work. The mall was close to barren as a few moms strolled around leisurely, baby’s at hip, or teetering along side of them. Many of these moms were white, caucasions, displaying their obvious means of wealth in the jewlrey that they wore, and the handbags they carried. Two mothers sat infront of me as I observed the food court, while casually picking at their grilled chicken salads in front of them, and their children ran wild in the play place that was within eye sight. They didn’t speak to anyone who passed by, nor did they bother themselves with helping another lady who was in an clear pannick after finding out that her son was no longer by her side and had ventured off sometime when she was ordering lunch. They kept to themselves, immersed in their own gossip, only rising to coo their children after having a wipe out on the kiddy slide.…
