The issue of abortion is very controversial in today's society.
Although many people think it shouldn't be legalized, there are just as many who
think it should. Your opinion rests with you and possibly the values you were
brought up with. Whether you think women should have the right to abortion or
not, you can find support for either side.
Many individuals take the side of anti-abortion or pro-life which means
they don't think women should have the right to abort an unborn child. This is
the con side of legalizing abortion. Some of the pro-life members think that
the reasons women shouldn't be able to abort is that the mother is ending an
unborn child's life and if the mother is old enough to get pregnant they are old
enough to have the child. Some pro-life activists think that even if you have
to put the baby up for adoption later you should still have it. Although some
of the reasoning that pro-life activist use, might seem a little ridiculous at
times many of the activist aren't able to have children or are just trying to
defend a baby that can't defend it self. The pro's of pro-life are that the
baby gets a chance to live and experience life outside of the womb and maybe
someone who is unable to have children will get the chance to be a mother or
father if they adopt this child who would have been aborted. The opposing side
takes a different side to the argument.
The pro side of legalizing abortion is known as pro-choice which is the
side of the argument that believes that if a woman is pregnant she should have
the right to abort. Some activist believe there are a number of reasons why a
mother would choose to abort. One, there might be something very wrong with the
child and the child might be better off never being born than being born and
having a life with many serious problems. You would also have to think of the
emotional damage this might have on the parents as well as the child. Another
reason a mother might choose to get an abortion is if she was raped and she
doesn't wan to have the child of someone he doesn't love. Having a child of
someone who raped you could have great emotional stress on some people. A third
reason might be that the mother might already have as many kids as she wants,
but she doesn't want to have to put this new child up for adoption so she thinks
it would be better if she never has the child. There are many pro's of pro-
choice. I listed some above, but these don't justify abortion. Wanting to keep
a baby alive that has so many problems that it would have a completely painful
life and uncomfortable life is a bad choice.
There are pro's and con's to both of the sides of abortion which ever
one you can find more pro's to is probably the side you should take. The pro's
to pro-life and the cons to pro-choice are as follows: You are sparring a life
of an unborn child, the child could be adopted by a family that wants a child,
and you don't sell a child short of any potential he or she had by aborting it.
The con's to pro-life and the pro's to pro-choice are as follows: The child may
have a very serious disorder that might cripple his or her life, the child may
not be able to be supported, but won't be put up for adoption, or the child may
be the result of a raping.
In my opinion, abortion should be legalized in some cases. Though this
is a very difficult issue to decide which side you are on, I think I agree with
both sides, but only on some arguments that they make. Although I know for a
fact there are things that I strongly disagree with on both sides, I am not able
to really determine who I agree with on the abortion issue, but I know I think
abortion should be legal in some cases. These few cases are when a women might
have been raped or there is something seriously wrong with the baby. I also do
not agree with some of the methods that are used to get rid of the fetus. One
way is as follows: During the second trimester of the pregnancy, many
physicians use a method called dilation and evacuation, or simply D and E. In
this method, the fetus is dismembered in the uterus and then removed (1). In my
opinion that is completely wrong. This is one reason why I stay in between on
the abortion issue. The abortion issue is extremely complex and will not be
resolved easily.

The debate on abortion is one that still to this day has been constantly argued. This argument can be historically dated back to 1973, where a popular case was brought into the Supreme Court. This was the Roe V Wade case, which legalized abortions in “abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restrictions and with restrictions in later months” (Lewis). Jane Roe was the alias for Norma McCorvery. She was the one arguing that in Texas there should be abortions allowed due to the protection of her rights as well as many other women that she was speaking for. The argument of abortion, however, works well beyond just the “rights” of the women wanting it. There is death involved as well as responsibilities that apparently many women aren’t ready for. However there are certain circumstances in which the pregnancy might not have been exactly planned or the child wouldn’t be safe in the living conditions of its parents. In this case, abortion should still not be looked at instead adoption should be thought about. The Roe V Wade case should be reconsidered to only have an abortion done if it was absolutely vital to the person asking for it.…

The pro-life view is characterized by “all men are created equal.” My personal view is that equal rights should be available to everyone regardless of sex, race, preference, age, etc. Throughout history there have been many conflicts of significance to women and blacks concerning the fight for equal rights; pro-life supporters say “why not babies too?” They also believe “there are no sub-humans.” Personally, I agree that there are no sub-humans. There are humans and not humans. I do not believe fetuses in a vegetative state, similar to a piece of tissue, are not humans because they are not conscious. Just because something has the potential of becoming a human in the future does not make it a human now (Planned Parenthood).…

The pro-life side argues that nearly all abortions take place in the first trimester, when a fetus cannot exist independent of the mother. As it is attached by the placenta and umbilical cord, its health is dependent on her health, and cannot be regarded as a separate entity as it cannot exist outside her womb. The argument that pro-life states that in the instance of rape and incest, proper medical care can ensure that a woman will not get pregnant. How would it be like if you weren’t allowed to choose what happens to your future? Some women do not get the luxury of choosing for themselves due to some laws set and they do not get the option whatsoever. That should be different as women are the ones who carry the babies, not the ones who are voting against it. Even though the baby never had the chance to live life, women should have the right to choose what they want to do with their baby because it may be bad for the women herself to have to care of a baby, they may not be prepared for a baby, and we do not know their circumstances of the situation.…

However, a child must be given a chance to live. Many alternative opinions exist other than abortion. The mother may put the child in an orphanage, foster care, adoption, and other areas that gladly accept babies that cannot be taken care of. Some might say to allow abortion since it is taking a woman's right away. But, let's be honest here; what’s more important a woman’s right for a life of an unborn child? Some might say woman’s right and some might say an unborn child’s life. “Supporters of abortion rights argue that access to abortion has improved the lives of women in the United States.” Recently, researchers have been asking women opinions of abortion whose went through abortion themselves. They replied yes, it has improved my life by a ton no worrying to do of raising a child and no hard work for me (Abortion). Others support abortion because if they don’t abort the child they are forced to raise the unwanted child. “Access to abortion also improves women's opportunities and autonomy, supporters assert. Women who become pregnant at a young age, pro-choice advocates contend, are often constrained in what they can accomplish because they are forced to raise children.” Supporters argue that if women don’t abort the child, then they are automatically forced to raise the unwanted child. Which then they would be beat, abused, and taken out on. Well, then opposers argue to that reason, “why not put the child to adoption?” Then the child is no longer your responsibility and you”ll have a care free…
