Would an age restriction help decline the controversy that violent video games cause behavior problems or have parents associated the aggression because of the many massacres and deaths related to teenagers who have played violent video games. Aggression could be defined as “feelings of anger or antipathy resulting in hostile or violent behavior; readiness to attack or confront,” in other words, aggression causes violence, but what causes aggression? Many have turned the blame on video games.
This issue has only been getting a lot of media attention in recent years, even though gaming systems have been around since the late 80’s, early 90’s. This is probably because in today’s gaming world, the most popular video games are more realistic and portray real life violent scenarios, compared to older games like Tetris and Zelda. The graphics in the game and the explicit content would definitely have more of a chance of influencing the viewers into acting out their games to real life. For example in the game Grand Theft Auto the graphics are so realistic and high definition that it almost looks like you are controlling real people or watching a movie, while playing Mario the graphics are cartoonish and don’t look anything like real life.
In recent years the violence depicted in many modern video games has raised heated debates among the public and all over the world, concerning whether they cause behavior problems in pre-teens and young adults. Much controversy has been spurred by the numerous massacres and school shootings committed by teens, Sandy Hook being a prime example. Statements have been made by various individuals that the playing of these games may have been a contributing factor in the shooter’s motives. Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, and Hitman are prime examples of violent games that raise concerns among parents, teachers, public officials and others; these games contain killing, stealing,
