Her thoughts and feelings were that diary. She was more insecure and vulnerable since she probably didn't expect anyone to have read it. The diary was written by Anne herself, obviously, it didn't show much of anyone else's perspective except her own. The purpose of writing the diary was more of Anne's way of coping during her times of troubles, but the purpose of sharing her diary to the world was to help people figure out who she was without knowing her personally. “Let me put it more clearly, since no one will believe that a girl of thirteen feels herself quite alone in the world, nor is it so. Some historical details that were different from the play or the memoir are that there are mentions of the word "kitty". Anne makes her diary her "friend" and names it Kitty. That's how Anne continues to write and cope, but it is never mentioned or at least, explained in the memoir or the play.
