Beta Club Transition Into Adulthood
The moment that signified my transfer into adulthood happened just recently. Since 8th grade, I have been a part of truly incredible academic-service organization called Beta Club. Beta Club has taught me the values of being a leader by serving others, and it is from this “servant's” mentality that has made me a better person. Moreover, it has given me countless leadership options as I served as my middle school Beta’s president. Then, I was elected as my high school’s chapter president, and this is where my moment of transition truly begins. Each year, the state Beta Club hosts a convention in Greensboro, where you can compete in events or run for state office. The state convention was like no other event I had participated in, and ever since I attended my first …show more content…
In all of the horror of standing up and speaking in front of a crowd of thousands, I had finally reached the zenith of my juvenile existence and ascended into adulthood. The next day did not even matter, as I had achieved a victory that no one could take from me. However, I did still want to win that office, and it eventually came time for that almost dreaded moment of the big reveal of who would be the next North Carolina State Senior Beta Club President. Moreover, the minutes prior to the big reveal seemed like hours and I could feel my heart racing; but suddenly the moment had come and out of left field I heard my name announced as the next State President. Then I was overtaken with a jubilant attitude that I had never felt before and complete awe seized me as I could barely get out my acceptance speech through my ecstatic emotions, and it was during that weekend that I experienced the marvelous feeling of reaching

During high school, I committed most of my free time to my NJROTC unit and my 4-H club. In both of these organizations, community service, leadership, citizenship, and initiative are indispensable values that are essential to their functioning, and I like to think I have learned to embody these traits. In 4-H, I have attended, and then went on to teach, numerous leadership and group trainings. In NJROTC, I attended the Area 5 Leadership Academy, graduated as the Second Honor Cadet of the 2014 Academy, and was selected to be an Aide for the 2015 Academy. I held, or currently hold, leadership positions in both organizations and I feel I set a good example for my peers and subordinates. Through any task, I am enthusiastic about my job and…

I was ecstatic! I finally had a chance to get people to love math! Although I was assisting middle school students prepare for Mathcounts competitions, I felt that I didn’t have the liberty to accomplish what was necessary to inspire students to appreciate math. However, I thought that as president of NMHS, I would be provided with the freedom to achieve this goal. Since I had been at the top of my math classes during high school, I anticipated an easy triumph for me. Due to this, I imprudently stood idle while my opponents campaigned to their friends. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm on Election Day turned into shock as I learned I had lost to a…

This day was already so memorable because it was on the day of the 2008 election, and Senator Barack Obama was, in all likelihood, going to be the first black president. Although I couldn’t comprehend all of the significance of his presidency at the time, I could sense that it was going to be an important day in our country’s history. This marked the beginning of an era for America, and an era that I didn’t think I would be able to experience as a resident of the United States.…

However, the more media coverage and the more conversation students were having around me, the more I knew that staying silent was not the choice I was going to make. It was then that I performed one of the most courageous acts I have at that moment in my life. I went to social platform and voiced my concerns about the accepted ignorance and lack of attention any racial, religious,or gender-based issues receive. Where before I choose to fit in, I now understood that I have every opportunity to change the course of the social environment of America- it starts by standing up for what I believe in now. My views are just as valid as anyone else's. I actively put myself out there to make one happen. Building up the confidence to be the role model, leader, and most importantly the person I want to be proved to be the best personal development that helped me grow more responsible for my actions and act compassionately to those around me. Overcoming my fear judgement from my peers enabled me to use my voice as a tool to preach love, equality, and justice and my choice to be a part of society by bringing awareness to others is one that I take pride in more than anything…

Standing alone in the conference room, 353 kilometers from where I belonged, I strived to ignore the loudspeakers announcing that the award ceremony for Harvard’s HACIA Democracy debate was about to begin in mere minutes. While I compulsively checked the time on my phone, I could clearly hear the swath of more than three hundred delegates from all over the continent marching across the wide hall of the Hotel Real Continental in San José, Costa Rica. They were all anxious and nervous, hoping to win a coveted award. I paced across that room, asking myself “What is your problem dealing with success? Why can’t you be comfortable in victory?” All my life, it was never enough; I was never satisfied with my accomplishments.…

RYLA is a week long leadership conference held for juniors from surrounding schools. Juniors fill out an application and are later interviewed and chosen to attend the conference. The main goal at RYLA is to be able to achieve leadership through various activities, with a small group of 16 other people, who I now consider family members. I never thought that i could grow so close to 16 other people in a weeks time but I did. I will never forget their names. (Ronnie, Nate, Molly, Maggie-Rose, Kayla, Kennedy, Abbey, Roger, Zach, Beth, Emily, Taylor, Kaleb, Jackie, Nicole, Olivia). I couldn't have asked for a better small group. Throughout the week of RYLA we had long days of getting to know each others' greatest and saddest moments, laughed and cried with eachother, and worked out some mind boggling team building problems…
