In the early nineteenth century, Americans tend to resolve their political disputes through compromise, yet by 1860 this no longer seemed possible. This is because of Taxes, slavery, Manifest Destiny, Texas Migration, development of new Political parties.
Before 1860 United States had one third of the territory that we have today. United States was divided into two parts, north and south. Between the North and South there were disputes about slavery. Then Henry Clay came up with the 36 60 line(Missouri Compromise). this line distinguished the difference between the slavery and non- slavery state. In 1860 the Tariff were applied on the Americans for protection. Later the Tallmadge Amendment came along, it had stated that Missouri is not allowed to have hold of any slaves. During the Second Great Awakening United States started reforming the country, which included the Temperance, asylum and penal reform, abolitionism, women rights and education reforms. In 1833 American-Anti Slavery society was founded. the founder of the society was Mr. Garrison who was strongly against the slavery. He had founded this society hoping to seek freedom for the slaves. Mr. Garrison was so against slavery that he refused to wear cotton or eat cane sugar because it is manufactured by slaves. Document B Does not present a threaten towards the Civil War. However after northern were disgusted for the compromise of 1850 specially after the fugitive slave act. Lincoln was running for presidency and no one voted for Lincoln in the south, because of these disputes about slavery led to the Civil War.
Another Factor that led to the civil war was the lack of trust between the North and South. The rise in slavery led to the suspicion between the North and South.
