College Essay Of Determination
Determination is the ability to reach for something regardless of the difficulty. It comes with a strong desire, and persistence to achieve your goals. Prior to ninth grade I had no drive to become anything in life, I was just a leaf blowing into the wind. In school I had the lowest grades, in swimming I was one of the slowest people, . Through sheer determination I have risen to the top twenty-fifth percentile of my class, competed in State Championships for swimming, and I have been secretary and treasurer in both special olympics and pet rescue. I spent my freshman year in Hargrave Military Academy because of my appalling grades; my academic performance often caused me to be the subject of ridicule in my household. I grew jaded from the scrutiny I faced for my academic performance, and I had developed a desire for more knowledge. I entered into the ninth grade with a transformed attitude, I came determined to become the best student in my family. I studied every night, I did all of …show more content…
I entered University School aspiring to improve upon my progress from the prior year. I registered for honors in Geometry, English II , Biology, World History, and Spanish II; but on the day of orientation I noticed that my classes were changed to regular. Furious about the sudden change I marched in the guidance office to see my counsellor. He said that he didn’t believe that I could handle the school’s academic rigor. We had until the end of the quarter to switch into classes that we wanted. I studied every night for each one of my classes, because I wanted no complications with my changes . By the end of the quarter I had A’s in all my classes, but my counsellor was not there for the final day of schedule changes, and the other counsellors refused to assist me. Damaged but not broken, I continued to do well for the sake of my upcoming junior

I went to St. Michael School from Kindergarten through Eighth grade, so when it came time to leave for high school, I was not excited for the change. St. Michael was especially small in regards to student population. We had just under three hundred students split between all nine grades. That left roughly twenty to thirty kids per class. I was extremely used too this small environment and not exactly looking forward to the terrors of high school towering over me nor the thought of being lost in the sea of students. Over the years I was extremely imbedded in my academics. I had straight A’s for my entire time at St. Michael. I received the academic achievement award at Eighth grade promotion for having the highest GPA in my class. Despite this, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to live up…

When I was younger I was very determined to play sports, but my opportunities seemed limited. At my age I considered myself to be one of the best football players we had. Unfortunately, it was hard for me to actually showcase my talents, because sometimes I would miss or even have to walk to my practices or games.…

Attending a community college in the summer of my junior after receiving a deplorable grade has proved the most influential academic experience I have ever had. Before, I stood believing that college independence allows students a more fluid and easier time with challenging classes than high school students. Instead, the adults surrounding me were struggling to attend class due to financial hardships, family incidents, and too much self-reliance. I started realizing that a multitude of students, including myself, were overlooking the privilege of family and school support. I began taking advantage of office hours and peer tutoring, assuring myself an understanding of Pre-Calculus before returning to school. Following advice from classmates,…

Years ago, my neighbor had this bumper sticker, “You were created for something awesome. Find your purpose.” I would see this bumper sticker every day, and hope that, indeed, someday, I would find my purpose. I never imagined that I was meant for more than being a mom and wife. Content with my role, I still kept hoping my awesome purpose would make itself known. Nearly 20 years after dropping out of college, I have found my purpose – I’m helping to heal my family and friends.…

My first couple weeks at The University of Alabama have certainly been a unique experience. I threw myself into the Southern culture by deciding to rush a sorority. In Connecticut, sororities are a fun activity that a few people join, and rush is a two, maybe three day process. Here, rush and sororities are a whole different ballgame. Door songs are easily the scariest thing on the planet. Recently a video of a door song from a different college went viral with captions comparing them to horror movies, and I know that it’s just a joke but I can see where they are coming from. Having hundreds of girls scream at you while you have to just stand there and smile is quite terrifying.…

I had difficulty reading and through observational learning programs, I was able to develop as a learner. The learning did not stop there, I begin to observe my environment like my sister and peers to gain knowledge. From modeling their behaviors I was able to expand my learning and reading abilities. Within learning how to read I developed and enhance my skills as a student. This led to a spark in my academic performance as a student and with the guide of reinforces and punishers, I archived a master status of becoming an honor student. As of now, learning has had a tremendous impact on my growth in life. In life, I was one of those students who were let down by teachers. I had plenty of teachers who did not have an ounce of faith in me. When it came to learning I was discouraged and frustrated to the point where I wanted to quit. Graduating from the program and becoming an honor student encourage me to never give up. I stop listening to people who told me “I cannot’” or told me to “just to stop”. When introspecting my life, learning has brought me a long way. I have accomplished so much as a student. My second year at Morgan University I was on the Dean’s list. From there on out, I have always maintained a grade point average of above a 3.0. I am truly blessed to have the support of my family and peers in my life. Learning has opened many doors for me and I believe this is only the…
