Colorado State University Scholarship Essay

I want to be awarded this scholarship because of my passion for learning and my drive to change the world. Currently, I attend Colorado State University and I will be entering my sophomore year. At Colorado State University I major in International Studies with a minor in Political Science. As such, I have a focus on the Middle East North Africa region and my goal by the time I graduate is to be fluent in Arabic. I want to learn Arabic because I believe learning languages is a way of creating tolerance. Because to learn a language you begin the process of understanding people and cultures. I am always asked what am I going to do with an International studies degree? I reply that I will spend my life traveling to learn as many languages as possible. And I
continue by stating, that I will be an active global citizen by working as an advocate for human rights. Yet, My goal at present is to take everything I can possibly glean from Colorado State University and apply these skills to my future. Furthermore, outside the classroom, I am an active participant in Jewish life on campus. I am a member of Chabad at CSU and I am the treasurer of Achayut. Achayut is a Jewish Girls Interest Group in which we have the intention of becoming a sorority so that any Jewish women has a place to go when they come to CSU. This year was our first year as an organization and we partook in such events as CSU unity, delivering and making bags for the homeless and we went on a group hike up to the A. Additionally, In Colorado I volunteer at the Food Bank for Larimer County and when I am in Seattle I volunteer at Jewish Family Services. Previously, In my years at Roosevelt High School, I was a participant in the music program for all four years of my high school career.
Specifically, I played clarinet in the Concert and Symphonic bands and I played in the marching band. As such we marched in parades all across the west coast and were by far the loudest in cheering on the Roughriders at our football games. Additionally, in high school, I took part in Model United Nations and went to several conferences and discussed a wide variety of topics ranging from the International Drug Trade to Piracy. I also took part, in the summer of my Junior year, in the National Student Leadership Conference for International Diplomacy in Washington D.C. At this Conference, I attended classes, took part in a variety of simulations, attended leadership courses, visited historic landmarks and listened to lectures from a variety of organizations ranging from the Peace Corps to Monsanto. In summary, throughout my High School career and now in my College years I am an active participant on campus because I believe in learning and experiencing as much as possible when given the opportunity and being awarded this scholarship would help further my passion for
education.
