Personally, I have been involved in my community since I was in the Boy Scouts of America. As I acsended through to the top rank of Boy Scouts known as an Eagle Scout, many projects were conducted. For example, I have planned and conducted my own Eagle Scout project in 2009; this project consisted of building a roof for my local firehouse. Other community service includes roadside clean-ups, annual earth day events, and fellow Eagle Scout projects. Since my community college career, I have been well involved with our campus and community. Particularly in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society of all community colleges, where I have become the President of our chapter. Within the society, the objectives include a honor's in action project…
I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…
Community service is vital to the life and survival of all communities. It is the role of all citizens to stand up and to be active members of their communities whether it be through activities, such as volunteering at retirement homes, schools, or local churches. Through my continued efforts to serve my community in college, I hope that I am able to benefit my community. Whether it be those who utilize the public library or little kids in grade school that need assistance with their homework, I will surely be able to serve…
At the start of high school, I learned that all students at my school were expected to perform sixty hours of community service before graduating. I hoped that my time would be well used, and that I could create a noticeable difference in someone else's life.…
Ms. Placencia stated, “There are diverse people in the different classes of the world, along with those stuck in poverty, and when we serve, we understand that we are all the same... some of us are just more beneficial than others.” Community Service forces you to understand the stories of others and break down the borders to be able to work together and build volunteer…
As my community service, I helped out at a facility called Feed My Starving Children. While there, you make food for starving children throughout the world. This was a very eye opening experience to me and it made me realize how fortunate I am to have a home, food and other things that some children/families don’t…
Community service is someone or a group of people provide a service to the community. It can be a reason or a choice; sometimes it’s mandatory for some people. You’re not getting paid to serve the community, but giving back hours. It’s like you repaying a debt to your society. It’s not the same as volunteering, but their similar. They both have different meanings to them. Everyone has to do it sometime in life. Also, the court system mainly use it on the people. Just know giving back in your society is repaying back for your services and kindness.…
Before I started doing community service I really didn’t care about others. I was just in my own world and just doing things that weren’t that beneficial for me and others. But that changed once I started to know other people’s situations. Realizing what the people who I was helping went through helped me have a change of heart. It made me care about others and understand how they felt.…
Being a nominee, I realize that the National Honor Society is an honor to be in itself. Since The National Honor Society is dedicated to helping the needy, children, the elderly and non-profit organizations. I feel that this is the right society for me because since I was a child, I have been noted for my exceptional empathy. My parents have always instilled in me a sense of responsibility and care for others. I feel obligated to utilize my gifts in an organization as prestigious as the National Honor Society. Over the past years as a scholar, I believe that I have demonstrated all four principles: scholarship, leadership, character, and service.…
Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…
Community service in its ideal form is a way of doing something positive for the community. When everything in the community seems to be breaking, families falling apart at the seems, economic leaders telling us to prepare for a loss of economic will, I get upset and I ask myself have we really arrived at a true and lasting definition of what community service really means. I have helped feed the homeless on many occasions through many different church groups. Very much have I enjoyed providing Christmas presents for families in distress. I’ve been part of highly organized community services like coaching troubled youth in roller hockey. This was what I knew and what I could offer to my community because I had the opportunity.…
Community service is a very important factor when it comes to improving the society. It shows how much care you show to the community when it comes to helping out the ones that are in need. As being a member of the community, I try to help out and support others as much as I can. Although community service can be very time consuming, I feel that helping out someone in my community that is in need is much more important, since the best thing a person can do is donate their time to someone. The place that I have chosen to do community service at is Chang’s Learning Center located on 17th Avenue and Bath Avenue. This place has given me a lot of experience and a wonderful time helping out the little kids that needed help with their homework.…
Community service holds you back from doing certain things. High schools require 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. If you don't complete these hours, it'll keep you from moving on. Certain jobs require you to complete community service in certain tasks. Not doing such can earn you a penalty. Another example to support this claim is a quote from an article titled "The Benefits of Volunteerism, If the Service is Real", is that "there is some cynicism among people that some portion of community service is prompted by students interested more in resume-building." This goes to show that people have lost the initial purpose for community service as a pass off to make themselves look good, rather than doing it for the cause alone.…
Hello Class, how are you today? I have come today to talk to you about a community organization that I participate in at, a local church by my house. The church’s name is seventh day Adventist church in Melbourne off of 192 and Glendon Dr, the community project is actually one I am quiet fond of, it is a youth outreach program which involves kids in teams sports to focus positive energy in a large group and to reassure them there are things you can do with your time that are fun and beneficial.…
First of all, community service is the doing of work for a needy person or people for no pay at all. When a person does community service they can build character while also learning about a skill that they may have never known that they were good at.…
