Community Service Personal Statement
I was able to complete over two hundred hours of community service in 4 years of high school. I have done several communities services such as volunteering summer camps, family markets, and providing tutoring for students at a local elementary. In the summer camp that I have volunteered, I have chosen to be a coach and teach children how to play soccer. I have learned a lot from my service because it has demonstrated me that I work well with others, especially children which made me realize that I wanted to pursue a career that involves them. Giving to the community is something that I enjoy doing. I always loved helping others and would always find a way to help those in need. When helping others, I do not expect anything in return because …show more content…
I believe taking part and volunteering allows me to better understand how to lead a community and to build a relationship with those around me. As a captain of the JV volleyball and softball team, I was able to assist my fellow teammates in improving their skills and being able to bond with each other. Rather than feeling nervous I was able to gain more confidence in me and setting a good example to my fellow teammates, I was also able to help my coach and teammates when they needed advice, guidance or just someone to boost up their confidence, Being involved in Leadership Training Institute (LTI), and Student Government Association (SGA), has also exposed me to several different community service opportunities. Recently, my friends and I created a minority girl club within our own school and we were presented with the challenge to find a way to positively impact our community. By this community service project, I was given the opportunity to sharpen my leadership and communication skills and being able to bring people together from different backgrounds. This club not only helped the girls but, also benefited me because I saw the importance of providing guidance and leadership for my younger

My biggest community activity is for Special Olympics of New Jersey. My family and I attend many of the events for SONJ including the Summer Games. I started volunteering by working and playing with the athletes. The area we staffed was where the athletes came to take a break and play with carnival-like games. The ages ranged from little kids to adults. It was fun putting smiles on their faces when you told them they won! It showed me we aren’t any different than them. They still like to do sports and have fun. They love to win prizes as do we. They just have disabilities that make them special. Over all volunteering for SONJ is a fantastic experience and in my opinion every boy and…

I have always cherished the value of service and its effects on communities. A school class that I take that promotes service is Student Senate. A requirement for that class is ten hours of community service per trimester, and I have been a part of this group since sophomore year. This class is all about improving our school and creating an enjoyable environment for our students to be in. An example of this would be when I helped decorate the halls during themed weeks such as Spirit Week and Winterfest along with my fellow classmates.…

Volunteering has always been an important aspect of my life. Whether donating food or painting a house, it has allowed me to be extremely grateful and humble for my lifestyle because everybody is not as blessed as I am. Volunteering has taught me that even the smallest gift, such as a smile, can be a great gift to someone because it can show that you care and want to be involved. It has allowed me to develop soft skills, and learn more about myself and my HBCU community. One of my greatest accomplishment in life was that I volunteered 1,000 hours in high school.…

I volunteer in my community whenever I get the opportunity. For example, I helped students get to school safely and I helped out around the school. I volunteered at the public library to help younger children. I now see it is hard work to get children focused and help them not make a big mess, but I enjoyed helping them in any way I can. Volunteering at the public library also taught me about patience. Not everything went exactly how I planned it out, but at the end it still worked out. My time at the library also taught me about effort.…

When I was younger, I participated in Girl Scouts where we volunteered in food pantries, senior centers, hospitals, animal shelters and charities for the less fortunate. We also participated in service projects such as making cards for veterans, making blankets for hospitals and the homeless, and made care packages for veterans and the hurricane victims. Volunteering is important to me because I had an aunt that unfortunately died of cancer and I feel that no one should have to go through the pain and suffering that she did.…

Whether it was holding the door open for the person behind me or simply telling them to have a nice day, my favorite thing to do has always been to make people smile. In elementary school, more often than not, I assumed the role of class helper. This entailed staying after class parties to help clean up messes or spending extra time at recess to make sure all of the kickballs were in their specific spots. As I've grown up, it only makes sense that my love for helping people in any shape or form has translated into a love for volunteering. Whether it is tutoring elementary school children or helping run a clothing drive, the numerous altruistic tendencies that have been instilled in me through volunteer work will forever shape who I am as a…

In my current role at Palm Beach Count Food Bank, I have the opportunity to feed people in need. I would love to continue to volunteer on a regular basis, because it changes me, and me perspective. We tend to think of what is not going right in our lives, but when we are intentional about putting others first, a thankful heart starts to develop. For that reason, I think it is crucial to be selfless and focus on the needs of others. I am not saying to neglect one’s needs of family, but to take time to acknowledge all the blessings the Lord has given to us in order to bless others. “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Hebrews 6:10,…

Here are some examples of my service to my community. During my 8th grade year in Elena Christian Jr. High School, both my classmates and I, we decided to do a beach cleanup. We chose the beach across from Water Gut. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I volunteer and participate with the Junior Meteorology Club of Elena L. Christian Junior High School. I help with certain fundraisers such as; bake sales, car washes and collecting donations. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving person. I also volunteered at the Agriculture Fair of 2010. I was helping out the Virgin Islands Police Department booth, assisting the police cadets, police officers, lieutenants and as well as the commissioner. Both my mom and I, we donated funds for Haiti at the VIPD in Frederiksted.…
