He had no ulterior motive, but just as the Founding Father saw that change was needed for the better, Madison saw that in order to prove that the Constitution was needed, he should document how thoroughly it was combed over. To also prove that it wasn't just for personal gain only including the "elitists". You also have to ask yourself, have I benefited from the way our current government system was setup? If so, you too are are victim of any so called treason that was perceived of our Founding Fathers. Ten years earlier a Convention, just like this on in Philadelphia, was held. The purpose was to correct what was wrong with the citizen's current standard of living, what someone could define that as, and who was fit to govern it. Of course the Founding Fathers weren't perfect and in fact many had slaves, but in that regard the aura that surrounds their memory isn't ill placed. The United States of American was the first nation of it's kind ever to be established in history. To this day, changes have been made to increase the quality of life for all but that would've only been possible with the Constitution and the people's right to influence
