Cosmetology Personal Statement

Having someone in your life to help guide and push you toward your goals is a blessing, especially when that person Is someone you admire or look up to, someone you would call a mentor. I never really thought I would have a mentor, but I also never thought I would be able to reach my goal so early. I remember the day I met my mentor - I was terrified! I had applied for a trade school in the field of cosmetology. I was in the 10th grade and the program started Junior Year. Mrs.Montello which was the program teacher, and my upcoming mentor had to interview us to see why we really wanted to be in cosmetology, to see if we were really serious about being in this school. When I went in for my interview, I saw a tan women, with light brown pretty curly hair, with highlights and dark roots. She approached me with a nice smile and a handshake and told me her name was Mrs. Montello. I sat down and she began to ask me questions like, “Why do you want to be in cosmetology?” or “How do you think you would progress in this field?” I answered all

Mrs. Montello gave us an diagram of what our prices and services should be like. I studied the diagram so I could have an idea of what my salon would be like. One day Mrs. Montello told us instead of her teaching us, how about we teach her something. We went onto the clinic floor and I taught her how to braid like a African. That day the seniors decided to come in and help us. One senior explained to me that cosmetology is like being a creative artist, to just speak my mind through hair and makeup.
