While attending Medgar Evers College, the opportunities I was afforded were second to none. I as able to affiliate or align myself with amazing advisors like Levar Burke, who was extremely fundamental while I trod the path of pursuing my career goals. He provided necessary support needed even if some of what he had to say was not what I want to hear. I’ve also had the opportunity to build rapports with like-minded individuals throughout my reigns as Junior Class Representative and Strategic Planner in the AAF organization on campus. Medgar Evers is overall a nurturing environment with a dynamic support system.…
Another internship that prepared me for graduate school is through my internship at Paul Hom Asian Clinic (PHAC), which provided me an opportunity to be the cultural bridge between the doctor and the patient through my proficiency in Cantonese. I have gained a more interconnected perspective on how to interact with professionals and how to interact with patient populations from different area including adult and geriatric. Since UC Davis emphasizes on diversity, I am able to contribute to the team. I am able to understand the cultural and language barriers that many Asian American and immigrant Asian face and be able to provide insight to my team through my experience as an Asian and through what I have learned from my patients at PHAC including…
Following, students engaged in an internship breakout session with Dr. Beaupre and PPP Alumni Adam Clark. It is highly encouraged that in the summer between the end of their sophomore year and the fall semester of their junior year, students take on internships, whether that be locally in Cincinnati, back in their hometowns, or in the nation’s capital Washington D.C. The sophomores found this session particularly beneficial because it got students thinking about their summer plans, while allowing them to brainstorm the types of internships that best fit their skills, values, and varying interests.…
Finding the occupational therapy assistant program at CCAC has helped me dedicate myself to a very important career path. While in high school at South Park, I was on the swim team and was the captain during my last year. While being involved with swimming, I also taught swimming lessons to children for five years. I have also been a dedicated employee at the South Park Clubhouse for the past six years and I'm still there. For two years of high school, I volunteered at a nonprofit haunted house, Hundred Acres Manor. I did all of this all while maintaining good grades.…
As a young child, I had a strong passion for the medical field. As early as middle school I had already looked at a variety of colleges that interested me. As a matter of fact, I…
Medical school gave me the privilege to work with highly skilled and experienced professors and physicians, who were always willing to share their knowledge and experiences with me. They taught me to become a physician who treats the patients as a whole not just the disease. I was enthralled to see how complex and astounding the field of…

The American Honors Program can help me achieve my goal of becoming a physician by giving me the tools and resources necessary to have a challenging and fulfilling community college experience and assisting me with transferring to a four-year college or university that has a respected pre-med program. Attending Ivy Tech as an American Honors student will also provide me with the critical thinking skills necessary to do well after I transfer as well as farther down the road as I continue my studies. This program has provided me with an adviser that assists me with choosing classes that will not only transfer, but will also be applicable to my future career and educational goals. In addition to this, the flexibility that both the American Honors…
I vividly remember being in sixth grade extremely jealous of the eighth graders being able to dissect a pig while we as sixth graders got a worm. The anxiousness killed me knowing I had to wait two years but it was well worth the wait. I was always on time because I knew I wanted to get first pick on every set of instruments and specimen. I always lead our group and was always the first to make incisions while everyone else was grossed out. That’s when I realized I discovered something I truly enjoyed.…
The best part of the internship was shadowing the principal. Like we model for our students, it was good to see a typical day for a principal. While I was not able to shadow for a whole day, I was able to select items that I wanted to participate in. These included attending Board Meetings, Parent Teacher Association, Intervention and Referral Services, IEP/504’s, budget planning, hiring, discipline and supervising sports events. These activities showed what events a principal participant in when they are not observing teachers or attending workshops.…
My internship experience at the Franklin Institute was an astonishing and pleasurable experience that I will never forget. Over the summer I had the opportunity to work with the Franklin Institute "Discovery Camp", which is camp geared toward 6 to 13 year old children who have an interest in science. During my summer internship we did many activities which were geared towards an area in science. For example, I participated in various chemistry experiments as well as the a mummification of frog.…
Why am I joining Summer College Preview Program? What do I hope to achieve through my enrollment?…
When I entered college I wasn’t sure I wanted to look into the health field. I did ultimately decide to go on the pre-health track and am in the process of determining what field and role in the medical field I want to pursue. I have thought about professions I want to consider which include pharmacist, physician assistant, or a physician. I have realized that I need to gain a different kind of experience in health care and there will lie the key to my decision. I might know about different services and roles in the medical profession but I don’t understand how the doctors work individually and how they all work interdependently with other medical staff . I have no clinical experience or any practice related to the health field, which is why I hope a program such as the Health Careers Opportunity Program can offer me that invaluable experience. I am a social, investigative, and enterprising individual who is willing to communicate, lead, and guide others and am anxious to identify my niche so that I can prepare…
One of the more important things I learned from this internship is that I don’t want to work in California; I dislike the hyper social, flaky, culture. I also learned a lot about how working with a living history program feels like. It was more social than I imagined. This knowledge will affect my life plan in that I am sure I don’t want to go to college or pursue a career in California. I also think I am more inclined to seek a career as a Librarian than as a schoolteacher, given that enjoyed working in a library much more than working in a…
at the doorsteps led me to pursue career in medicine .The Family physician focuses on treating the patient rather than just a disease entity and such treatment is uniquely affected by the individual circumstances of each patient. During my course of internship as well I found that family medicine gives the true opportunity to understand and deal with the patients problems immediately and individually.…
