My prior leadership experience would be from being on the cross country and track team. I help out underclassmen learn new disc and shot techniques and supply with tips for running in the future. Last year I coached a volleyball team at Wallburg Elementary. I occasionally volunteer my time at the Winston Salem …show more content…
Family Home. I clean up the home, I play my flute, and cook for the families.
The flute section has been getting better at marching through the years, I actually would say that marching is our best feature right next to playing. The group of girls know what to do, they all are very intelligent. The underclassman are very good at playing, which you could probably tell from their high placement in spring band.
I would have to say that the great weakness of the flute section would be the drama.
It was pretty bad last year, or from what I heard. I for the most part stay out of it because I know it’s mostly harmless stuff. This year I would do more involvement in the section as doing small parties and section dinners. I feel like it would benefit the section because no one would be left out and we would create stronger friendships.
I would say that I am a very good leader. I am very passionate in what I do. I work very hard to accomplish what is needed, and even above the expectation. I enjoy working with my section, they are all very intelligent and hard-working girls, and I want their hard work to show. With my personal strengths, I feel like it would really impact my section and the whole band in a positive way.
If I were to pick another person in my section to be section leader, I would say it would be Haley Snyder or Marris Meyer. I picked these two ladies mainly because their high placement in Wind Ensemble. They both are great marchers and perform well under-pressure.
I am able to make a full-year commitment to band by being helpful and kind. By showing these two qualities, it makes it easier for individuals in my section to ask me questions and grow as a musician. I plan to put band as my first priority …show more content…
year-round.
I don’t know really of any personal obstacles I would have to overcome, but I know of a few section-related difficulties that I might be faced with in the future.
With this obstacle, I plan to be patient and fair to everyone in my section. In result, I feel like this will end up better in the end and will help the section get along better and build friendships for the future.
My personal goals for the 2017 marching season is to really get work in. This may seem very vague, but it’s what the whole band really needs to do. When I say “get work in”, I’m meaning whatever we do, to do it correct the first time and as efficiently as possible. This will create a well-rounded and successful marching band show. I’m really pushing doing everything correct the first time because everything will be much smoother and easier over time, whether it is doing basic block or correcting drill, it all matters in the end.
I feel like I definitely feel like I have what it takes to be a great leader for the flute/piccolo section. If I need to stand up to my one friend it is definitely worth it, mainly because I’m doing it for the sake of 130 people (as in the whole band). I plan to keep band as my top priority, whether it means making hard decisions or standing up to my friends. Band really means so much to me, and I wouldn’t let some low-standard friends get in the way of a successful
season.
