This part of the document will give the definition of communicational skills that relate and how they can or are used by McDonald’s.
Communicational
Effective speaking skills
An effective speaker can engage the speaker by converging to their language so the listener can understand what you’re saying. Also explaining information clearly and engaging the listener shows effective speaking skills. This is used in McDonald’s in several ways. One way is communicating instructions or advice to other colleagues that you have got off the management team. Also repeating orders to the kitchen is another way of communicating with workers. This would keep the restaurant running efficiently and keep the ‘fast food’ element going. Another way of displaying effective speaking skills is through communicating with customers. Whether you’re taking orders from the restaurant or through the drive-through, you would need to speak clearly show the customer can understand what you’re telling them.
Listening Skills
Listening skill can be defined as, “Listening is the act of hearing attentively”. Listening skills involve keeping eye contact with the speaker to show interest and also doing gestures like the nodding of the head can be affective listening skills. Employees of McDonald’s would have to develop whole-person listening. Whole-person listening is to understand the speaker’s thoughts, words and motive. This would be most used when communicating with managers as you need to understand completely what they mean so you can perform their instructions to the highest level. Also this listening skill can be used when communicating with colleagues and customers like making recommendations to colleague to improve the efficiency of the restaurant or to the customer in making recommendations of what to eat based of your knowledge of McDonald’s products.
Body Language
Body language is a kind of nonverbal communication, where thoughts, intentions, or feelings are expressed by physical behaviors, such as facial expressions, body posture, gestures, eye movement, touch and the use of space. Employees of McDonald’s must constantly show positive body language throughout while they’re working at the restaurant so customers feel like they’re getting the best service possible. Positive body language would include nodding their head to instructions from managers and when taking orders from customers. Also smiling can be an effective use of body language.
Personal Appearance
Personal appearance is how you present yourself to your friends, family and the outside world. Being presentable to customers will encourage them to approach you about queries and make their experience at the restaurant better. It will also improve the overall service of McDonald’s as customers and colleagues will see you as approachable and make the service quicker and more efficient.
Written communication skills
Written communicational skills are very important part of communication. Things like letters, E-Mails and magazines are examples of these skills. Written communication can be more time efficient and more practical in most situations especially in a high energy environment like McDonald’s. An example that McDonald’s might use is you may leave a note for a colleague to see the manager or a different work colleague. Leaving this note is more practical for you as it saves you time trying to chase down the person just to tell them this instruction and this time that you have saved can be put back into the business which would improve the service of McDonald’s.
Confidence
Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something or have belief in yourself in your own abilities. Having confidence in yourself also means that you believe that you can make a positive impact on McDonald’s. Confidence could be shown at McDonald’s through taking part in charity events for the local community. Raising money for the community would be seen as a noble and creditable thing to do for you personally and for McDonald’s. Furthermore this may attract more business for McDonald’s as people may recognize your face from the charity event and buy McDonald’s products which would improve your status around the business.
Empathy
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Empathy could be used at McDonald’s for when employees feel like they aren’t getting paid enough or their working conditions are not practical or good enough to provide the service that they provide. The employee or employees would go to the management and ask for a raise or better conditions. If McDonald’s feel like that this will benefit the company then they will grant their request and make the workforce feel better about their job.
Respect
Respect is the admiration of someone’s abilities, qualities or achievements. Having respect of your colleagues and managers shows that you appreciate what they do for the company and how you should aspire to be like the managers who have got this far up the hierarchy. Also if your colleagues have respect for you then you will have a great working relationship. This would improve the quality of service and the quality of food production as you can work in an environment where nobody dislikes or disrespects them and customers will see that when they come into the resaurant.
Feedback
Feedback is information about reactions to a product, a person's performance of a task, etc, used as a basis for improvement. For McDonald’s they would use feedback for worker’s performance or customer’s feedback on the service provided by the Crew Members. This feedback will be taken in by the management team at McDonald’s and they will hold a meeting with various people involved in the restaurant. Once they’ve evaluated the feedback then they will apply their methods to the business and monitor them over a period of time to see how successful they’re.
