“Jessie! We are leaving now!” Aunt Casey yelled from outside the house. Jessie looked at the house one final time. She smelled the crisp, salty sea air from the ocean and her feet were devoured by the soft sand below her feet. Jessie gets up slowly and puts her luggage in the truck and sits down. As the truck started to speed by the house, she stared at it until it simply evanesced. This would be the last time she would see that house again.

“I know that you aren’t happy about this move, but look on the bright side. You will get a whole brand new house, new town, and maybe make some friends,” Aunt Casey said. Jessie didn’t talk to her. Jessie was moving from her beach view house in Miami, Florida to a big mansion in Toronto, Canada. Jessie

She examined it, as if it were a crime scene. It had everything she ever wanted, but she simply shrugged and entered the house.

“This is your new house. Isn’t it beautiful?” Aunt Casey asked.

“ Not as good as our old house.” Jessie mumbled. Jessie was her room and she bolted into it. As she was unpacking, she was starting to get overwhelmed about the new school she was going to. Once she was done, she smashed her face in her pillow and started crying herself to sleep.

The next morning was her first day of school at Snow Valley Middle. She got ready and got on the bus. She sat in the back row, away from everyone else. She felt alone in the crowded bus and didn’t want to talk to anyone. She simply wanted to head home. Then someone sat next to her. She had pink, fluffy hair in that went everywhere and had a wonderful, excited smile on her face which had a smudge of pink frosting on her cheek.

“Hi!” she screams in my face “I don’t recognize you. Are you new?”

“Um y-yes,” Jessie stuttered.

“Cool!” the girl exclaimed. “My name is Marley, but people call me crazy, psycho, party animal, or Pinkie Pie because I make awesome pies, I always have pink frosting on my face, and that I have a lucky pinkie finger, but please call me

32 “Well its actually happening ma’, I’m goin’ back to school.”Rufus said. “I want you to know, I truly am proud of you Rufus.” His mother replied. Curtis and Janet went to a different school then Rufus but he still walked them to school then walked himself to school. On his way to school a car followed him very slowly but Rufus kept walking. When he got to school it looked the same on the outside that it always had. Rufus pushed open the doors at Searingtown School and yelled “I’m back!” All of his friends ran over to hug him. He went down to the office to get a tour he thought he didn’t need because he remembered every single solitary thing about this place. While the tour was going on everything going on was a blur. He looked left, right and left again, admiring the changes the school had made. “Wow” he sighed. “Is there a problem Rufus?” the tour guide asked. Rufus answered, “When I was here the wall paint was all chipped, there were broken windows and holes in the walls.” “Oh ok, well that concludes our tour and this door on your right is your first period class.” The tour guide replied. Rufus walked in and sat at an available seat at the back of the class room. He opened his notebook and took notes even though he didn’t understand anything that was going on. By the time 5th period came around it was time for lunch he was starving. All of his friends called him over and asked him to sit with him. Momma didn’t make him a big lunch because they didn’t have that much food in the house and then needed to split it 3 different ways. Allison who used to have a big crush on Rufus sat right next to him. Mitchell and Charlie sat across from him and Christina, Alisha and Sammy sat around them. When the bell rang he went to his locker and when he got to class he looked out the window and saw the same car that followed him to school. The only person he thought of was Simon. But he didn’t have a car? Rufus ran to the office to explain the…

Slavery was significantly important to the United States because not only did it last for over 200 years, it lead to the civil war between the northern and southern confederate states. However, the changes in plantation crops and slavery systems that occurred between 1800 and 1860 were because of the Industrial Revolution. The constitutional Convention and Ratification held in Philadelphia from 1787–1789, gave the Southern states the freedom to decide about the legality of slavery in their own states. With a plantation system that was organized to maximize market production, the routinely cultivated crops such as tobacco, sugar and indigo was declining.…

“We’ll see,” she answered. All of us kids worked frantically to unpack the car and put the luggage in each person’s bedroom of the house they were staying at. We stayed on my Grandfathers (Grandtom) properties when in Cape May. He had a large Victorian house (called 909) for him and my Grandmother (Granddot) and their guests and next door was a smaller but still grand Victorian house (called 907) for his children and their families and friends- that is where I stayed. There was a tennis court behind GrandToms house and a large garage with a one bedroom apartment above behind…
