Medical Laboratory Technician
What is a Medical laboratory technician? A laboratory technician process specimens and perform laboratory tests ordered by physicians and medical technologists. Many specialize in cytotechnology, hematology or microbiology. As a medical technician, you may perform tests on saliva, blood, and tissue samples and then be responsible for recording and sharing the results with the physician. Performing these tests often requires the ability to operating various medical machines and equipment. You may also at times be responsible for the training of other technicians. Lab courses show you how to collect specimen samples, perform tests on cells, blood and other bodily fluids, analyze the results and maintain lab equipment. The school you choice may have some other required classed you will need to take on top of the ones that are required by law. When you have completed all of your classes your school will send you out for extern/internship where you will hands on and get the feel of every aspect of being a medical lab tech there are a certain amount of hours you need to have done. Once you have done everything you will have your Associate's degree but you are not done yet all of what you just learned was preparing you not only for the work filed but to get your ready to sit for your boards like the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) exam to acquire certification. Think of certification as sort of like your driver’s license. It’s the proof that signifies you really do know what you’re doing. This evidence of your competence in the medical lab field just puts you another step closer to landing your first job and earning your very first paycheck. When pass that you will be officially A medical lab tech. If you want to keep going and further your career and education you can go on and get your Bachelor's degree and become a medical laboratory
