In almost every English class, the transition from midterm to final term is not quite easy. In this class final term, ENG 121, I have practiced my writing skills continuously with the process and writing from analysis of printed ad to the complicated argumentative essay. I have found that the final was more complicated even though the idea and the processes in the midterm had a great help in the processes and writing in the second term writings. For instance, the idea of finding or creating a topic sentence, developing details, and reasoning and concluding the essay were part of the things that had a great help for the final semester.
In the midterm, I had many things that challenge my writing process and highly affected my …show more content…
grade. The grammar errors or language usages, use of too many unwanted words and phrases or words, and other related things were the basic challenges .Although I should have to practice many things after this class, I feel like I have tremendous changes as compared with the midterm.
When we come to second term I have found somehow complicated essay kinds that challenge more than midterm essays.
Analyzing the printed ad was the first one after midterm. This wring helped me to be more focused in identifying ideas, messages and other things that one cannot understand easily. The connection between the colors with the commercial message, understanding the pictures and the logical connection between the pictures and the message that aimed to transfer to the audiences was tough, but it helps me to look things in different way, and to be multidimensional. Also, writing analysis essay by analyzing commercial ad was the other difficult thing that I learned in the final term. This essay was a little bit challenging, but had a great help for the final argumentative essay, which was more difficult. Knowing ethos (Credibility) in analysis essay helped me how I can set up the ideas and evidences to make credibility to my essay readers. Also pathos (feeling or emotion), helped me in making the feelings to the audiences. Furthermore, logos (logic) helped me I how can put the logical connection between the ideas, reasons with the topics and subtopics in every paragraph and conclusion in my argumentative
essay.
In addition, when I read the essays, it helped me how they wrote the essay: especially they taught me how I can do good structures, details, and conclusions. My reading habit also increased in reading those essays. Another thing that had a great help in this class was the teacher’s commitments and comments in every class and in all assignments. The teacher was serious in showing and commenting our errors. Those helped me to be more focused and working hard on the assignments. Finally, the argumentative essay was the most challenging essay as compared with other essays. Using and inserting quotations, work citations and other related things were very challenging. However, it was a good challenge for further classes in the future.
In conclusion, the class was very interesting class. I have learned so many things. Now, I actually try to become someone else to write. Those thing I learned in this class, give me a fresh new perspectives for even more story ideas. Those are my practical applications for these skills outside of this class. I hope to learn much more that I can apply later on as well.
