Knowing what communication worked before helped with the construction. One thing that helped Morse and his comrades decide how communication would be transferred was the use of an universal code. That meant that no matter what, everyone would use the same code to communicate. That alone would help communication become less hectic with translation. Other factors like materials and cost would also help Morse and his comrades make the best decision for their invention. “Some prototypes were made with things like canvas stretcher, homemade batteries, and other wooden parts” (Zannos 34). “Other things like the code needed to be constructed from scratch.
