My Leadership Philosophy
Leadership Essay

My preference is to lead by action and deed from the background. I take pride in having good human values and applying them in my daily living not only in school bit also at home and within the world. In middle school I was a member of the Community Services Program which met weekly to organize activities to benefit people of our local community. Each year my family discusses and picks an activity to advocate for people. When I was younger I/we did Project Angel Tree where you pick a child to get a XMAS present. When I was younger I painted shells and brought them to an Assisted Living Facility and gave one to each resident. I also helped deliver Meals on Wheels to Elderly

I was raised to respect all people . This is why my family picked a community project each year to respect others in our world. I also believe it is important to be honest in all of your leadership roles. The third trait is to lead by example from the background with self motivation. I believe that self motivation is a very important and valuable trait. Leading from the background means you are not being an arrogant pompous person rather, you are actually leading as a participatory member of the …show more content…
Leadership by example and behavior is equally valuable. Over the years I have been in charge of small projects whether it be a car wash or fund drive. My style and experience have taught me that often leader can lead by example with a democratic equality and participation in the process. I feel this is a productive method. Of course if one is leading a military unit in combat one would use a different style of leadership.

I believe that the style of leadership depends on the situation and environment. Some situations work best with shared tasks and decision making. Other situations may require quick decisions made by the leader without and input or processing.
In my job at an Assisted Living Facility many of the residents have enjoyed my interaction and advocating on their behalf. At home I respect my mother and try to set a good example for my younger sister.

I have seen many people/leaders that are arrogant and talk down to people. In my opinion Leadership’s core is not based upon a hierarchical position of power looking and talking down to people simply based upon power. One source defines Leadership as "a process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task". There are many styles and forms of leadership and at times the situation may influence a particular modification of preferred

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

After investigating the background of leadership, and looking into various leadership models, I can see there is no single style which will make someone an effective leader/manager. I have learnt that the most effective leaders are those who have the ability to understand which style is required and interchange between the various leadership styles so they apply the style to suit the current task and staff member. I believe that successful leaders need to be self-aware of how their actions can impact others.…

My leadership style is best described as a funnel. My aim in leading others is not to conduct every single individual, but to guide everyone to work towards the same central goal. I believe it is best to let others bring their own unique abilities to the table and use them to accomplish the task at hand. One of my most memorable experiences as a leader was leading my school’s student section. When I came into high school, school spirit was a joke. At games, everyone sat and no one said a thing. I decided that needed to change. My fellow students didn’t want change. They told my friends and I to sit down and shut up. I kept standing, I yelled louder, and kept going. Eventually, I started a spark. By the end of my freshman year there were a group…

Leadership requires for one to be a part of a whole, a team player while blazing the trail at the front of the pack. A leader must be dedicated, tenacious and resilient while being receptive, open and responsive. Leadership is understanding that no one is perfect and to be effective, it is important to develop your team as well as yourself.…

There have been many things that have affected my philosophy of leadership. Something that has affected me as a leader is my values. One of my core values is responsibility. As a leader, it is important I understand what to do and what is expected of me. When I am responsible as a leader, those I am trying to lead are more willing to do what I ask them to do. Another of my values is respect. In the past, I am always nice and listen to the ideas of others even if they are not the easiest people to be around. In my experience, it has been easier to earn the respect of my constituents when I respect them as well. My core beliefs will continue to influence my behavior as a leader in the future. The development of my leadership philosophy has also been a result of watching my leaders. One leader that has affected me a lot has been my father. When my mom was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, he did all he could to help out. He took constant care of my mom, continued to work from home, and helped me with school without ever complaining. I try to behave as he did in my leadership roles. I do everything willingly and help out as much as I can. I aim to keep negativity out of already stressful situations and try not to complain. My leaders at school, both good and bad, have also affected my style of leadership. They helped me learn when I need to sit back and let those I…

There are quiet leaders that are the ones that show their leadership more in their actions rather than words. There are leaders who stick to more of the academic activities and leaders that are more involved with the after school activities. All types of leaders are important as long as they use their leadership in a good and beneficial way. I have learned that I can be a different kind of leader in different situations. For example, when I played sports, I was a loud leader that loved to motivates my teammates and get them excited, and when I was a leader at a retreat, I didn’t enjoy to give speeches in front of many people, but I liked to stand back and talk one on one with the participants.…

My leadership philosophy is about making genuine connections to people. In order to influence people to be great leaders, all the key factors should be tapped in to in some capacity. I make sure my actions speak louder than my word. I lead by example by rolling up my sleeves and showing team members I am not just an army civilian but a part of the team. This philosophy applies to my life whether at work or home. I credit these key factor as the core of becoming a great and effective…

My personal philosophy of leadership is always putting your maximum effort in everything you do, going the extra mile, being honest, and always trying to bring the best out of people. Two theories from the text that resonate with me and inform my philosophy are the servant leadership theory and the transforming leadership theory. As mentioned before, I think I am a servant leader because my primary goals is to serve and help others. In other words, the reason I like being an E-Board member in my clubs is so that I can use my voice to make a difference in my community and help individuals to my best ability. I try to put others first and their needs so that they can be the best leaders they can be as well.…
