My Leadership Philosophy
Philosophy of Leadership
I believe leadership is bringing people together in order to achieve a common goal. It is important to support collaboration and to have as many perspectives as possible. As a leader, it is my job to help the group grow by challenging them, as well as guiding them. Leadership is having the courage to take charge and be responsible for a group, as well as encouraging others to take charge. As a leader, I strive to be as positive as possible in order to get those I am leading through a difficult task. Leadership plays a very important role in my life and I want to be able to stick to my values and believes throughout all of my leadership experiences.

With each new group that I led a new value or belief has been added to my philosophy. Being the leader of the homecoming dance committee allowed me to see what it really took to be a leader. Leading my Business Professionals of America team allowed me to shape the value of positivity and keeping an optimistic work environment. I was also the secretary of my high school’s Best Buddies chapter, which helped shape my value of diverse perspective. Being on the leadership team of my high school’s student council helped shape my value of collaboration. So, throughout my years in high school, I was given many opportunities to really shape my leadership style. But now that I have the foundation of what leadership means to me I can start to build atop of it to become a better leader. In the future, I plan to take the values I have now as well as those I am continuing to build to accomplish whatever goal the group has. Over the years I would love to take up leadership positions within the student organizations I am in at the University of Iowa. I hope to take what I have learned about leadership from my past experiences and put them into action at a higher level. I also want to lead beyond my time at college, whether that be in the workplace or within my community. I think it is important to always be leading something and working towards a goal that is larger than yourself. Working towards a bigger goal is important because that is how you start to change things. I plan to continue to lead by seeking out new opportunities and pushing myself past my comfort

During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. When I was in school I took a test, which gave me suggestions on what I should do in life as an adult. I believe that the test that I took influenced my personality, and the type of attitude that I had in time of conflict, and situations. Each suggestion that I was given would have me to be a leader. I believe that in order to lead, a leader must have walked were other are trying to go. Leaders have the challenge of serving those employees, or students who they lead. My personal philosophy of leadership is always putting your maximum effort in everything you do, going the extra mile, being honest, and always trying to bring the best out of people. Two theories from the text that resonate with me and inform my philosophy are the servant leadership theory and the transforming leadership theory. As mentioned before, I think I am a servant leader because my primary goals is to serve and help others. In other words, the reason I like being an E-Board member in my clubs is so that I can use my voice to make a difference in my community and help individuals to my best ability. I try to put others first and their needs so that they can be the best leaders they can be as well.…

It created opportunities for me to expand my interests and gain new skills through volunteering and teamwork. My initial goal was to venture out of my comfort zone because I was a shy student who kept to herself most of the time. As time passed, I gradually became more confident in myself and learned to voice my opinions. With my newly found confidence, I began to create connections with others helping build my people skills along the way. Leadership also gave me the opportunity to coordinate a club based on a worldwide organization called “We.” Through this club, I have gained leadership skills through public speaking and planning. I have felt more inspired to take on the world and its challenges that come with it. Consequently, in order to strengthen my abilities as a student, I must learn to take…

Ever since I was a little girl I have always been ambitious. I believe you get out of life what you put in and it is important to strive for excellence. It is also important to set goals and never stop until you achieve them. Growing up with two very influential parents who gave me all the leadership skills and confidence I have needed to strive for my main goal in life has been the greatest blessing possible. Being a leader is also important not only for yourself but for society. A leader doesn’t only stand up for themselves but for others and what is right. A leader has high self esteem and an overall positive attitude about life. As a leader it is important to be passionate about your beliefs. One personal belief I feel strongly about is equality for all under the laws of The United States. Having aspirations to be a lawyer has come so naturally to me since I could remember. I believe everyone deserves to be treated equally regardless of race, color, sex, age, handicap, marital status, and income.…
