My Leadership Philosophy
Leadership has been present in my life in many different ways, through sports, academics and even through friendships. When I was younger I didn’t know what it meant to be a leader, I always though the “leader” was just the most popular or most liked person within a group, whether it be a sports team or group or friends. As I grew older, I realized that was not the case, leadership comes in many different forms and has many different aspects.
I have been a cheerleader since I was about 5 years old, I have competed at different cheer gyms and on different teams but have never let go of the sport. When I was young I would always look up to the older girls, I never thought that one day I would actually be one of them. As I continued through my cheer career and life I learned many things about leadership. It’s not a popularity contest or any kind of contest for that matter. It is all about being a good person and standing up for what you believe is right with the intentions of helping others do the same.

They were showcasing their worlds team before they left for worlds and giving people in the community an opportunity to watch. Of course I went I was in such shock, I had never seen anything so amazing. The cheerleaders on that team may not have known it but they were leaders in the gym, everyone else at the gym looked up to them so any decisions they made and any opinions they had about anything were mimicked by many others at the gym.
I am now on that worlds team and I am the cheerleader that others look up to. I have been on the team for 3 years now, this will be my 4th year on the team and I have learned the good and the bad about leaders. The seniors are usually the leaders on my team, which is good because they are older and usually more mature but this year as it is my senior year I didn’t want to be the leader just because I am a senior, I wanted to lead the team in the best way

Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. Not everyone has it in them to be a great leader. Most people do, but do not accept the challenge. Some people may also believe that they are leaders but are not truly fit or put the position to lead in a way that would be aspiring to others. According to Mrs. Stephanie Fontenot, leadership is one of the most important aspects in the classroom and on the basketball court. As soon as she was asked the question,…

Leadership is a prized commodity, however, it is not one that has always come naturally to me. I was a rather quiet kid growing up, and so I rarely let my voice be heard while I was at school. Despite my timid nature, I was able to develop enough self-confidence to open up to others and share my feelings through baseball. Baseball is truly a team sport, requiring constant communication and trust between teammates. As such, the close companionship I held with my team mates created the ideal environment for me to develop my leadership skills. Base running was always my strongest skill, so I constantly found myself teaching my teammates how to gain the advantage. I became the unofficial base running coach year after year, even as the teams changed…

To me, leadership is leading by example. My years in high school have shown me that the person who builds people up, and shows kindness is more of a leader than someone who commands and controls people. I strive to be this kind, caring person who others can look up to. As I grow older, I hope that by doing the right things, I can inspire others to do the same.…

I have participated in varsity cheerleading since my freshman year of high school. Over the course of these years, I have become a leader of the team. Through these four years, our team has struggled with leadership from our seniors in addition to our coaches. My teammates naturally gravitated towards me for leadership because of my positive attitude, a quality our seniors lacked. As a junior, I became the person that everyone would come to for help because I made it my responsibility to make my teammates feel like they were in a fun and safe environment. When our practices would become hostile, I tried my best to relieve the stress of my teammates and bring positive energy. After practices, many of the cheerleaders would come to me to talk…

In freshmen in high school, my coach told me that I was taking charge of the team, since the captain was absent. At first, I was excited that I was able to demonstrate my leadership qualities, but then pressure was piled onto me as I try to figure out how I should behave. However, I took a minute think back to what my captain typically did for warm-ups. What I found was my teammates taking me seriously and respected how I started practice.…

If someone is quiet on the team, for example, I will start talking to them and get to know them. I will engage everyone in conversations, and make sure everyone feels welcome on the team. I want to make sure that people know that I am an approachable person, and that anyone on the team can come to me anytime for any reason. Being a leader in this sense has a greater impact than leading the team in workouts or during a race because at the end of the day being a part of a team is so much more than the actual sport. It’s about being a family, and it’s important to me that everyone feels…

Part of leadership is the ability to make a difference under difficult circumstances. But, what is a leader? A leader is a person or thing that holds a dominant or superior position within its field, and is able to exercise a high degree of control or influence over others. In a community, being a leader is often difficult due to all the components and struggles that go into being one. A leader is an individual who can take charge in various situations, and do it effectively in a way which makes others follow them. Leaders are very important in all situations to provide direction and stability, and it takes much effort to be able to lead groups of people well. I believe I can take this on and be a leader, based off of my actions in groups, the services I have done, and the attitude/characteristics I have.…

Leadership has always been important to me. From a young age, my parents, my teachers and my community promoted the idea of leadership as a crucial aspect to the betterment of not only myself as a person, but the people around me as well. By being a leader myself, as well as being influenced by the actions of others, I have truly learned the significant impact that a seemingly small action can have on a person, a community, and even the world. Though leadership and being a leader itself is difficult to define, I have come to realize that leadership exists within everyone, it is simply up to each person to use their gifts to positively impact others. Even though many people view a leader as someone who is firm, authoritative and bold, these…

Throughout my high school years, I maintained various leadership roles. The first of which was serving as a section leader in the marching band for three years. As a section leader, I was the example of how the section should act, present, and conduct them. I was also the captain of the golf and tennis teams, first leading by examples through my actions and then through my playing skills. At my home church, I am the Youth Director providing an example of how to live as a young Christian despite the temptation of peer pressure. While here at JMU, I am currently serving as a mentor at the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County Boys and Girls Club to disadvantaged to youth. Just furthering my education beyond high school is the primary and first example of leadership.
