My paper will be answering the issues of diversity from Conflict theory, Functionalism theory, and the Symbolic Interactionism theory view points. I will be telling you how each of these theories would answer these questions. Do you think that corporate and government agencies should offer diversity training in the work place? If so, how can we develop diversity training that foster mutual respect? Can you suggest practical ways to develop workplaces undivided by gender and race ethnicity?

It is sad to say that as mixed cultured as the United States is there are still issues diversity in the work place. The questions of diversity have to be answered and confronted with patience and understanding. I personally believe that companies should offer diversity training, since the work place is growing and the people who are seeking jobs are not the traditional white male. I believe that it is important for workers to understand that the reason that the African female got promoted because of her talents and hard work not because of her ethnicity or her gender. Whereas the conflict theorist might see that diversity brings conflict. Instead of the woman getting the job on her own merits, she had gotten her promotion because was African and a woman. Therefore hostile could arise with her co-workers. Whereas the functionalist may see that every one provides a specific function to the workplace, and everyone has their place in the company regardless of their race, gender or age. They are where they are because that is their function in the company. They might see the promotion of the black woman unfair because that is not her place in the company. The symbolic Interactionism theorist may the women being promoted as a change in the company. They may feel that their comfort zone being threatening. They may be concerned about what is going to happen to them

Roosevelt Thomas provided a more in depth understanding of diversity and indicates in his article that diversity is no longer about the crucial distinctions between groups, but is the elements that encompasses both the differences and similarities of employees (Understanding and Managing Diversity, pg ___.) thus, creating a diversity mixture within corporations. For me, it is surprising to adjust to the notion that diversity can in fact relate to the similarities and/or qualities of constituencies. This helps to eliminate the thought process that diversity is one dimensional.…

    Today 's management in the workforce is composed of all types of people verses thirty years ago when white males held a majority of upper-management positions in companies. These positions are now held by a mixture of ethnic back grounds and women who hold just as many if not more management positions then men.     Due to the lack of knowledge and understanding about different races at times tension can arise without the existence of being open minded to diversity.
